I am continuously impressed by all my colleagues on this board, and we are making great strides in our admissions effort. I do have one question. We all know your college goals, could you please share WHY you are going to this college? I.E. What are your CAREER goals? I don’t think there has ever been a thread discussing this, the focus is always college college college. Isn’t college a means to an end?

Thank you very much brenner87. Your observation is pertinent. Many people just join the bandwagon and follow the craze. We all seem to be more interested in college admission procedures, applications and all that and forget that we are going in to learn.

My career goals are more important and I always keep that in mind. With that, I go to college with purpose. I know what I want to gain from the experience. So after college, what next?

Well, I plan to be a professional writer, poet, musician and architect. I also want to be a missionary and I plan to travel around the world. My major is architecture, anyway. I'll get a masters in architecture and an MBA. But I love writing and drawing, singing and playing a musical instrument. I hope that even before I get out of university, I would have started exhibiting all these.

What are your plans (or should I say, dreams)?

I'm going to Georgetown this fall, and hope to continue on to Law school. I would like to serve in the Navy as a JAG, and then become a judge outside of the military. My major is going to be government.

Please, everyone join in.

I want to be an oral surgeon. It's 14 some years of school, but I'll try to survive. I really want to travel the world too! Hopefully, I will be able to open a clinic in Kenya, or Honduras, or Haiti, or some other third world nation. I met a lady once who was an oral surgeon in the US, but moved to a facility in Kenya where she works as an all-around surgeon. My mom is also interested in working for Unicef or Red Cross. Maybe she'll be able to do that after she gets my siblings and I through college, but I'd love to do that as well.

lol, I think this site focuses more on college rather than careers since its collegeconfidential.com

but I want to go into management/finance at some point, but hopefully major in something more interesting in college like political science or history.

I have no idea what I want to do...thus why I am going to a Liberal Arts school.

I want to be president. Seriously.

So many things **** me off in the world, especially our government (USA), and I will not be like my parents, who sit back and complain about everything but don't do anything about it. If the people so will it, I will represent them and strengthen democracy, limit the power of the executive, give more power to Congress and cut the ridiculous spending habits that waste trillions in taxpayer money, while ensuring civil liberties and freedoms that have been impeded upon recently. I want to make the US a country to be proud of once again and lead by example, not by threats of war or sanctions.

Vote for me.

Wow - same here. :) ^

I really want to be a lawyer. Hopefully Ill be able to attend undergraduate studies at Duke and move on to Law School at an Ivy school. Then start a private practice for some 15-20 years. After I retire from law, it has always been a dream of mine to enter politics. Maybe as a senator or Supreme Court Justice, Im not sure yet. This was a really good question!!

I have no clue what I want to do. Maybe i should have chosen a liberal arts school?

vote for me for senator in 2040. i'll let you guys know who i am then. i won't let you down.

Alright here are my plans -

I'm going to UConn (not for any basketball reasons) to major in pre-dentistry. I've wanted to be a Dentist ever since my former dentist pulled the wrong tooth (long odd story). Anyhow - UConn has the number 1 Dental school in the country. They also have a program where I work with the Dental school throughout my undergrad & I'm automatically into the Dental school (still waiting to find out if I made it). So yeah anyhow, I want to be a pediatric dentist b/c i love working with kids too (that sounds really cliche but its the truth).

i want to become either a journalist, a professor, or lawyer or i can become a journalist first, lawyer second, then finally a professor until i retire. if i get hired by the new york times or abc news, then i might stick to journalism all the way through.

I am in college for but one, single, solitary purpose -- Medical School.

But I have backup plans should that fall through.

i really don't know. i'm looking for someting spiritual right now cause i've just experienced a really painful epiphany.

I don't really know... I think I'm gonna take a year off to do some acting. Then I'll go back to school and maybe major in poly sci. I can see myself doing something in law or politics, if the acting thing doesn't work out.

many occasions in this board, i am surprised by how so many students already have set their minds on one thing, one major, one career, and/or one school.

Not sure yet...I want to explore my options, but I kinda want to be a human rights lawyer, social activist, behind-the-scenes politician, journalist.......

I'm torn between law and medicine. Entertainment law or radiology.

At least I have 4 years to decide for sure what I wanna do after college.

i want to make a lot of money.
hopefully i become a businessman and have enough power and wealth to lobby those damn congressmen/women.
