i just got accepted into ucsd bioE premed and i'm wondering what are you going to learn in this program? what are the differences from the bioE program?? Will there be courses offered to study medical devices?? I'm not trying to get into medical school, s i don't worry so much about mcat, high gpa requirement and other stuff.

then why are you taking premed?? its not ABET accredited, but it doesnt really matter...and if you havent looked at the tracks yet, heres your premed courseload

You need that to get certain engineering jobs. ABET is the main accreditor of engineering programs. A lot of colleges don't have ABET accreditation for BioE so I don't know how necessary it is to get a job.

switch out unless ur positive that ur going to get good grades cuz med school is all about grades grades and grades. That major is pretty much worthless in my opinion. I signed up for bioeng.premed too but requested to switch to biochem/chem just recently. Sure, it's still bioengineering but you don't really have a focus unlike the other bioengineering majors. and it's dominated with hard hard engineering classes. Actually, bioengineering in general lacks specific focus which makes it not as useful as the more traditional majors. So job security might not be as strong. But, at the same time UCSD is amazing @ bioe. so go for it if u really like the subject. Bioe: premed is fine but in terms of costs and benefits, you really need to think twice about it. Good luck.

I'm switching out of that major. After one quarter of it, and looking through the 4 year plan, I realized how brutal that major is and how useless it is to me (premed).

What is the best or most popular major for premed? I would imagine biology, but which emphasis? I guess I'm wondering, which biology major will help you the most once you get to medical school?

"will help you the most" is a tough question. it's helpful to have a strong foundation in the life sciences, plus physical sciences too to get you through physiology and pharmacology classes ... but really, it's not going to give you any significant advantage over your classmates. people of all majors get into med school, even the really good ones.

(my current ivy-league university opened the first medical school in the nation, and my best med-student friend graduated with a degree in international relations. go figure.)

I'm curious too. I'm in BioE Premed, but only because I want to transfer to BioE Bioinformatics and they wouldn't let me do BioE or Biotech because they were impacted.
