Any and all responses welcome, especially if you’re a rising junior/senior! I am a rising senior right now and I just feel like I’m lacking in productivity… I don’t have a cool internship/job or a kickass summer program like it seems all my other friends do
I am currently volunteering at a hospital for a music therapy thing but it’s only once a week and it’s not very involved. I’m still actively trying to pursue more volunteer options and look for a job (that will hopefully look good for apps… yes I admit it). I just feel like I’m not doing enough. What are you guys doing with your summers at this point? Anyone have any tips on how to make this summer look good and productive? Thanks guys!!
There’s a bunch of stuff you can do! If you like writing, write a paper and submit it to the Concord Review. As election season is coming up, you could volunteer for a campaign if politics is your interest. If you like to cook, take cooking classes and make a blog with your own recipes. My tip would be not to do something banal that would disinterest both you and the adcoms. You’re smart! Use you’re creativity to do something unique and unprecedented!
bump!!
I’m taking summer classes…Which I need to finish in 2 weeks.
Anyway, you can do your common app college essay or practice for SAT/ACT. Other than that there isn’t much else
I went to a UVA Writing Program back in late June, but other than that my summer has been rather unproductive.
i WAS supposed to start studying for the SAT in July, but I got lazy/went on vacation so I’m starting in August (yikes). Also currently doing summer assignments; am reading The House of Mirth for AP English and Opening Skinner’s Box for AP Psychology, as well as read articles and write an essay for APUSH and do a math review packet for Honors Pre-Calc.
I took 2 classes so I could take a different class in the school year. then I had band. Very busy
@atomicmonkey1122 We’re in the same boat then
I volunteered at a sports camp for disabled children and am currently finishing up a summer class (supplemental) at my local CC. I also started writing college essays, studying for the ACT, and began prepping for Chemistry Olympiad.
@TheSlacker16 I would study for standardized tests but I’m all done with my SAT I and SAT II Subject Tests! So that’s a relief. @SirSly Good luck with SAT prep!!
I guess I’m going to be spending these next few weeks doing summer homework, working on the Common App essay (which opens in 1 hour, eek), prepping for speech/debate and volunteering. I still feel like I’m not doing much compared to people who have like insane research internships but hey it’s something!
I’ve just had a summer job, that’s pretty much it besides working on summer assignments. I’m only going to be a freshman so I need to find something I like doing in the summer :/. All the camps I wanted to do we’re too expensive
Tour potential schools, scholarship research, and yes common app just opened! (The essay prompts came out a long time ago not today btw)
I’m a rising Sophomore but so far I completed an Intermediate Algebra class at a CC so I could get that requirement done and take Precalc. I’ve also been doing SAT vocab, practicing saxophone, and I am working on Spansh and German languages. I am in Spanish III this year and I’m taking German for “fun”
Essentially wasting it. In all seriousness, I’ve just done a few things: community service (36 hr), summer homework, and a 2 week camp. And I’ve been studying Japanese on my own, but most of my summer has been spent lazing around. I’m a rising junior.
I’ve been pretty busy to be honest. I did Spanish and got an A (thank God) took a Russian class, volunteered 60+ hours at the hospital, wrote 8 soon-to-be 9 ap English essays and I have procrastinated on my 9 APUSH essays. Sigh. I have a medical internship from now till the end of summer, I hope I can finish all of my homework in time!
@sprights 9 AP English essays? 9 APUSH essay? Gosh that’s a lot of work. My school only has AP Lit, Lang and Expos students do like 3 essays and everyone else chooses between an essay or a poem.
Good luck!
@sprights Wow good luck!! What do you do in your medical internship? Do you help out at a hospital? Sounds interesting!
I shadow doctors, PAs, nurses, and pharmacists!
@TheSlacker16 I know right! My teachers are insane. I want to enjoy my summer and not worry about the essay and research project due this week and next week. Sigh
I’m interning at a local university and I’m a part of the city marching band, both of which eat up 90% of my time. I also have to study ahead for AP Chem and AP Physics (our school doesn’t have official summer homework, but it’s common knowledge that if you don’t study ahead of time you’re screwed) and (whoopee) the SATs.
I also spend a lot of time reading. Haven’t watched much TV, though, which is sad.
Anyone have suggestions for learning calculus (1) in 10 days? Lol
…Seriously, PM me for (memorization) tips! :-c
