then I'm not thinking of Venus di Milo. It's a sculpture of a gorgeous woman, but with her head and arms broken off. It's not "Winged Victory" but a more internal work. I saw it at an exhibit of feminist revival, and it just struck a chord because she was all breast and hip and gorgeous curves, but headless, mindless, armless, helpless.

man. does anyone know that work? maybe it's a bastardization/interpretation of VdM?

tebro,
there's a lot of ancient greek statues that had their heads and arms chopped off by the romans because the romans thought it made them look older and cooler (bastards!). i don't know if the work you speak of is ancient or not but i'll let you know if i see it.
i know what you mean though! the same thing with winged Victory: i think the statue is more magical without arms. i would like to know what her face was supposed to look like though.

Persistencia de Memoria, I can't think of the french impressionist one, (I'm now including music b/c I don't know enough about art) String Quartet in F, Rhapsody in Blue, and Moonlight Sonata
