This forum is intended for people to post where they have been accepted and which schools they are choosing between. It is also a thread that is intended to be a place where people can help each other make the best choice given their options. Please post under the following format (no need to include stats but feel free to do so if you feel inclined):

Waitlisted:
Northwestern
Lehigh
WashU (but did not accept place on waitlist)
Boston College (but did not accept place on waitlist)

Deciding Between: Vanderbilt, Villanova, TCNJ, Loyola.
Leaning Towards: Vanderbilt or Villanova. I am from NJ, so the distance to Vanderbilt is pretty much what I have against it. It also depends on how much aid I get from Vanderbilt and whether I get into a program I applied to at Villanova. TCNJ and Loyola are still in the running because they would be considerably cheaper. Northwestern is actually my number 1, so if I get off the waitlist there, then I will probably try to go there. I am pretty confused right now. May 1st is going to come awfully quick.

Vanderbilt is the “best” school you got into. I would go with Vanderbilt, but if finances is an issue, you have to make the best choice for you. Good luck!

Brandeis
colgate
washington and lee
nyu
lehigh
some safety’s

rejected at cornell
looking to study biology… can’t decide really between colgate, washington and lee, and lehigh.. i wasn’t a fan of brandeis social scene

@mrchipmunk90 i would also go with vanderbilt to be honest, unless you really like villanova that much more.
good luck getting off the waitlist for NW!

@deis1015 colgate’s a great school, i’d go there if you dont mind cold upstate NY

Deciding between: the 3 accepteds
Leaning towards: villanova, but i have yet to visit skidmore…intended chem major, thinking about a minor in business…what do you guys think?

Acceptances
Dartmouth
UMich
Berkeley
U Arizona
U Washington Honors
Brandeis

Rejected
Yale
Cornell
Tufts

Deciding Between: Berkeley, Brandeis (offered me full tuition scholarship), Dartmouth
Dartmouth is my number one, but I want to major in chem, which I hear is Berkeley’s specialty. I also kind of like urban life and diversity, and I wonder if Dartmouth will offer me enough diversity. Then again, I also like classic New England towns and snow and I’d really like to go back East. Plus, Berkeley kind of didn’t give me much aid and I’d have to attend starting in the spring.

Oh, and I’m kind of glad I’ve crossed off Michigan. I am DEFINITELY not going to Michigan anymore (no financial aid + more expensive than Berkeley + not as cool as Berkeley = me knowing that I’d love Berkeley more.)

atrophic, i’d go dartmouth. when you get to the top schools in the country, you’re really splitting hairs. i don’t think a future employer would turn you down because you went to dartmouth instead of berkeley. i’d go with the school you like more, and that seems to be dartmouth

@atrophic if you don’t mind the social life at brandeis.. i would go there, you would save a ton of money and brandeis is known to be strong in the sciences.. although both dartmouth and ucb have better programs.. idk if its worth all that money..

I have to say atm im really going with either W&L or Colgate (probably for biology)… I really don’t mind the cold but I would rather the warm virginia weather. However, i’m from the northeast (moderate to conservative in politcal beliefs) but i’m not sure if W&L is too southern?

College of William & Mary,
University of Virginia
Loyola College in Maryland (honors, full tuition scholarship)
Villanova University (honors, scholaship)
2 safety colleges

Rejections: none

Waitlisted: none

Deciding between: UVA , W&M, Loyola

Leaning towards: Don’t know yet.

D wants to maximize GPA for medical school.

Acceptances:
UCSC
Stevens Institute of Tech.
UCI

Rejections:
BU
BC
Lafayette
Lehigh
UCSB

I am not going to Irvine. I plan on being a business major but I am afraid that Santa Cruz’s reputation might prevent me from getting a job later in life. I am also scared that Stevens’ academics will be too rigorous for me. Stevens also seems to be lacking a social life on campus.

atrophic, I’d definitely go to Dartmouth (if you have money).

bln, a full-tuition scholarship is mighty tempting. Especially with honors, if your daughter’s goal is to maximize GPA she will probably excel at loyola md.

Deis, I don’t think W&L is too southern. If you like mostly everything else about it, I’d choose that school. I might be silly in saying this, but colgate=toothpaste. Great school also though

ihopeipass, I’d choose Boston U or Northeastern.

Acceptances:
George Washington
Michigan State
Northeastern
U Wisconsin-Madison
U Arizona

Deciding Between: Michigan State or George Washington

Leaning Towards: Michigan State??? I really dunno

Pros/Cons: I love sports/school spirit of MSU. I visited there already, and loved the campus/people. Plus its relatively near chicago where my relatives are. But is the big city and D.C. internship possibilities too tempting to pass up? I’m majoring in international affairs so no doubt GW would be great for that. Plus, all the stuff to do in D.C…and its fairly warm there.

Acceptances: Carnegie Mellon (School of Computer Science)
Cornell (School of Engineering)
Brown
University of Rochester
RPI
Rejections: None!
Waitlisted: None! I’m quite surprised.

Deciding between: Cornell, Carnegie Mellon and Brown
Leaning towards: Cornell

I’m planning on majoring in computer science, and I like all the schools. I’m gonna need to revisit them, but any other input would be nice…

deciding between Rutgers NB, American and university of maryland college park. im more set on rutgers and umd because i want to have a bunch of options at my fingertips rather than a small school that speciallizes in a couple of areas. im still not entirely sure what i want to do with my life. also, i got wait listed at gwu and i was thinking that maybe i should just sign up for the list and send them a bunch of letters. but gwu is at the same level as rutgers and umd so i dont see the point.
please help!!

As much as I love American University, I think that it is really only good for public affairs or international studies (what I want to go into coincidentally), so I think if you are looking at a large school go rutgers. American is just too specialized for you it looks like, and in my skewed opinion, it is a better school than umd.

Acceptances: USC, Pomona, Willamette, UPS, Colorado College
Rejections: Stanford
Waitlisted:

Deciding between: USC, Willamette, Colorado College (app. half tuition scholarships at Willamette and USC, 9000 at CC, nothing at Pomona :-/)
Leaning towards: Don’t know!! Ahhh I’m visiting them all soon though, trying to get my bearings beforehand.

Edit: Biology major, want to go to grad. school

Grand Valley State University
Presbyterian College

Waitlisted:
University of Dayton

Denied:
Michigan State University

Pending:
Randolph-Macon College

Stuck between Carthage, Randolph-Macon and Central Michigan, although I’m leaning towards RMC. Only problem is I have yet to visit.
