Deciding between: Tulane, Vanderbilt, and Pomona

Leaning towards: Money is an issue and I received no financial aid. I’m concerned about the social life at Vanderbilt, but I feel like there’s no name recognition with Pomona. I hope to major in Spanish and maybe minor in business, and Tulane is the only one with a business school. I also want a high GPA to help get into grad school. Any thoughts or suggestions?! I would really appreciate it!

Deciding between: Northwestern, Wellesley, Emory, Vanderbilt
Leaning towards: Northwestern. I was accepted into their Medill School of Journalism, and I want to study journalism. I plan to be a documentarian.

Trouble? I can see the merits in all four choices, plus five of the other six offered me some significant merit money. I’m from Atlanta, and I love my hometown, but part of me is reluctant to be so close to home. I’m thoroughly confused as to where I should go. Any helpful hints? I want a big city and a school with prestige and tradition…

Thank you so much!

Lili518, Pomona is a wonderful school, and it’s incredibly prestigious for the academic people who matter. Tulane is also a great school. I take it you got Presidential-- me too! I also worry about Vanderbilt and its focus on GReek life, as well as rumors as to its perceived pretension.

All good choices, though.

Northwestern FTW…No question IMO…Why? Medill, prestige and tradition

Choice #2: Any of the merit schools that have a strong journalism program…

IN resident majoring in biochemistry

Fordham University (8k scholarship)
Willamette University (15k scholarship)
University of British Columbia
San Diego State (honors program)
Marquette University

Waitlisted:
Boston College
Occidental (but I’m taking myself off of it)

I was accepted to more, but I’ve narrowed it down to these 7. I want to be a journalist/writer, if that helps for suggestions. Right now I’m leaning toward Smith, UBC, or Holy Cross, but I’m a mess right now. HELP!

Acceptances: Binghamton
Penn State
U Delaware
Northeastern
Virginia Tech
URI

Rejections: Villanova

Waitlisted: RPI

Deciding between: Penn State, Binghamton
Leaning towards: Binghamton

Engineering major. No merit scholarships that I know of yet. Binghamton would be in-state tuition (no loans!) but I think Penn State is a bigger name in engineering but I probably will not end up being an engineer - I just want to have the background. I’m planning on grad school prob MBA or maybe law school.

Acceptances:
Duke
Purdue
Rice
WUSTL

Rejections:
Stanford

Waitlisted:
Tufts-- haha I didn’t send the supplement, application fee, or sat scores lol

Deciding between: Duke and Rice
Leaning towards: Rice

mechanical engineering major. half tuition at rice, and it’s higher ranked in engineering, but is there something about duke i should really know? or something bad about rice?

I’m trying to decide between Wellesley and Sarah Lawrence. They will both cost about the same for me and both have their ups and downs. I cannot seem to settle on one or the other. I want to be an English major and both have really great programs. I don’t know what to do.

@gettingthere31, I’d suggest Sarah Lawrence, which is REALLY known for its writing program. Wellesley is good, but when I think of English being a specialty, I always think of Sarah Lawrence. Plus, Wellesley, being a woman’s college, always makes me think there will be tons of drama (and lesbians in hiking boots, but that’s just me.)

oogie girl, penn state and VTech are on a whole nother level of engineering than binghamton. If you want to do engineering, you should consider them both

chicagoboy12 - be careful if you have a scholarship at Cornell you may endanger it by switching from engineering to another dept.

Thanks for the advice atrophicwhisper. I really need all the advice I can get right now.

Alright I have it down to 3 schools.

Baylor University—pretty bad fin. aid but I may be able to work it out.
Lawrence University—Pretty good offer, covers 37,000/40,000
Denison University---- Best offer, though not final, covers 45,000/45,000

I want to major in Classics/Biology (maybe international relations, but probably not).

I was also thinking about applying to more schools…ugh..idk…so LOST right now.

Acceptances:
Duke
USC (18k presidential scholarship)
UCLA (honors)
UCSD (Regents)
Berkeley
Johns Hopkins
BU (10k scholarship)
Cornell

Waitlist:
Columbia
Northwestern

Deciding between: Duke and USC
Leaning towards: don’t know!! switches back and forth

Bio/psych major-premed. Is a Duke education worth nearly twice as much as a USC education? I’m aiming to get into a good med school, so at USC, I’d probably have an easier time getting a high GPA as opposed to Duke. But from what I’ve heard about Duke so far, it seems too good of an opportunity to give up.

“Is a Duke education worth nearly twice as much as a USC education?”

No, not if you are planning on med school…What are you passing up at Duke that you can’t buy with $18,000 at USC?

Acceptances:
Pitt
Fordham
Duquesne(honors)
Marquette(honors)
Case Western

Rejections:
Penn
Swarthmore
Bard
William and Mary

Waitlisted:
Denison(didn’t accept)
Tulane(accepted)

I really want to go to Tulane, and if I get off the list I will. I am staying in communication with Tulanes addmissions/counselor, they do not want supplementary material/additional recs, wrote a letter and emailed updated info. I graduaeted early so no academic updates. If anyone has input on how people got off the waitlist in the past, I would be very grateful.

Deciding between Case, Marquette and Fordham. I have some “special circumstances” and have to get my FA re-evaluated, so I have to wait for their final aid offers.
I want to major in poli science and pre law, minor in journalism, I am from PA.
Advice?

Does anyone have anymore advice concerning my situation (Sarah Lawrence vs. New College of Florida)? It’s back on page 5. I could really use it. Thanks.

I have been admitted to my state school, Rutgers New Brunswick. I have also been admitted to the University of San Francisco. I want to study Media Broadcasting but I am having trouble deciding where to enroll.

Rutgers has given me practically no financial aid, just work study and loans. USF has given me a pretty generous package. At this point, USF is the cheaper school for me. However, it is very far away from home and I have never visited the school. I have visited Rutgers though, and I loved it.
Should I go to Rutgers for about $2000 more a year or go to USF, a lower ranked school that I haven’t seen? Which is a better descision?
