WHAT ARE YOUR CHOICES? Come here to help people decide.

SUNY Geneseo
Kalamazoo College
Hobart (HWS)
Ursinus College

Geneseo would be about 15k a year, K would be about 22k, Hobart 24k, and Ursinus 19k.

They’re all so close in comparison, each with their pro’s and con’s. I’m going to major in biology or psychology, heading on the pre-med track, and I plan to study abroad in Spain at least a semester. While I have a plan as to what I want to do, a startling amount of pre-med students change their minds, so I also need to figure the level of their other programs as well.

I’ve visited each of the schools twice, except for Kalamazoo, because it’s in Michigan and I live about 12 hours away in upstate NY (but I do plan on visiting later this week). Does anybody have a strong opinion towards one school in particular?

Acceptances: Boston University, College of Charleston, and New York University
Rejections: Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Emory University, Georgetown University, and University of Chicago
Waitlisted: None

Deciding between: all three
Leaning towards: maybe New York University

I want to study linguistics and psychology. Which school do you think is the best?

I was accepted to: Quinnipiac, Saint Michael’s College, UMass School of Business (Isenberg), Loyola, Salve Regina
Waitlisted at: Santa Clara U, Providence College

Did receive money from Saint Mike’s but not significant.

Trying to decide between GW, Case western, Lehigh and Syracuse. Which one is best all-round?

accepted:
Cal Berkeley
UCLA
UCSB
University of Washington
Chapman
Santa Clara

rejected:
Stanford
USC

deciding between: UCLA and Cal Berkeley

I’m really torn, please help!

My friend loved case western if that helps, and he was the HYP type too.

I am really suprised to see some of the responses. I saw some people who were accepted at BU, but was rejected from NYU. Complete the opposite of me.

Accepted:

NYU
UVA
Tufts

Rejected:

Boston University
JHU

Deciding between NYU and UVA. Leaning towards NYU but will most likely end up in UVA.

I’m trying to decide between UVA or Swarthmore. Money really isn’t an issue. I want to study Econ and PoliSci/IR if that’s any help. I plan to go to law school.

benwa11ace, choose UVA if you like a city that is designed for people over the age of 60. :)

Accepted: Tufts
U Michigan Ann Arbor (Honors)
U Illinois Urbana Champaign
George Washington (presidential academic scholarship -> $15,000 each year)
Syracuse ($18,000 each year -> but turned down)

Rejected: Yale
Dartmouth
UPenn
UChicago
Georgetown

Waitlisted: Johns Hopkins

Deciding between: Tufts or Johns Hopkins (I know there’s not much chance in waitlist)

Leaning towards: Tufts (whether I get accepted to JHU or not)

Major: International Relations

Both have one of the best IR programs..
Not much chance for JHU but still posting to ask whether I should even attempt putting myself in the waitlist if I’m not sure I’ll go there even if I’m accepted.

Accepted:
Washington and Lee
Kenyon
Wooster
Miami U (Honors)
Ohio Wesleyan

Rejected:
Harvard

Waitlisted:
Cornell
Johns Hopkins
William and Mary

Deciding between: Kenyon and Wooster really…
Leaning Toward : Kenyon

Scholarships to both, but Kenyon is still a lot more expensive.
Maybe some help with grad school-Wooster
Probably No help with grad school- Kenyon

and I want to major in anthropology and biology…

mtngoat1: I’d say Sarah Lawrence as it has the better known rep. Helpful in the job world.
Southern Fla is.. well, not my favorite place but some people like it.

Lori1122 - UMich. Close and less expensive means more $ for fun and easier to get home when you want to. Plus a good school so you can’t go wrong!

Like everyone here I’m having such a hard time deciding.

Acceptances: RPI, UNH,Boston College, Brandeis, WPI,
Northeastern (honors program).RIT, Villanova, Ursinus, and Clarkson

Waitlisted: MIT – favorite, but I’m not keeping my hopes up.

Deciding between: Boston College(too much of a party school??), Brandeis (closest), RPI, UNH (best $$)

I’m planning on majoring in computer science but also keeping up my studies in Japanese/French and graphic arts. I love Boston. Am not Jewish but liked Brandeis (small, friendly, close to Boston), loved RPI also but it’s 3 hrs away and more $! All schools offered decent scholarships but UNH offered close to full scholarship… but seems to be lesser known. WPI doesn’t offer much in languages so I ruled it out. Would like the more advanced technologically, nice campus, most prestigious for grad school and jobs, …help!

Tinpenguin, I’m not a big South Florida fan too, and I love NYC. But I’m not sure whether the many pros outweigh the prodigious monetary investment…

mtngoat1: How bit a $ investment? I’m weighing the same options - RPI, BC or Brandeis about 12K yr compared to Almost Free to go to UNH… keep going back and forth with decisions.

Here’s one to make you scratch your head and wonder if DS should flip a coin because the choices are so different:
accepted: Penn State University Park(must start summer session) - might be way too big but starting in summer might help. Also more choices?
Also accepted at Ursinus College (w/merit aid, approx. $10K per year more than PSU) - too small, too much like high school?
waitlisted: villanova
did not apply anywhere else
Major: had been undecided, possibly premed, now thinking of computer or information science
S is shy and needs ‘down time’, not a party animal (at this point anyway)
Any insights??

I am deciding between Dartmouth and Duke. Thanks for any suggestions

reasonwhy: I was accepted to Ursinus as well. I’m thinking about going premed too, and they gave an awesome program with something like a 95% acceptance rate to medical school. As for the size, the campus is beautiful if that helps, with a ton of great sculptures and art spread out over the campus, and they change their locations every year. Frankly, the size is one of the reasons I might not attend.

reasonwhy - go w/Ursinus. Smaller classes there mean more direct attention. It won’t be like high school. I was accepted there too and if it were not so far away it would be on my top choices. They have the best graphics I’ve seen from any college, not that that matters, but I’ve been very impressed with everything from them. I think it’s a good place for ComSci.

Accepted (mechanical engineering):
University of Minnesota
Purdue University
St. Louis University
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Rose-Hulman
University of Washington-Seattle
Iowa State University

Rejected: USC

Waitlisted: U of Michigan

Am deciding between Purdue (36K/year all in out of state), U of Minnesota ($20K/year all in in-state).
