Deciding between: Columbia SEAS & CMU SCS
Leaning toward: Columbia

Obviously I’m interested in computer science. Columbia seems to be winning because of location and because of the 5 letters/mailings I’ve received in the last few weeks, nearly begging me to come.

Boy this is tough! Am still stuck between GT and Texas A & M for Mech. Eng.
$$$$ …scholarships roughly the same.
Atlanta is closer.
Texas is friendlier.
What’s a boy to do???Help?

Acceptances: Georgetown, Indiana, Michigan, Virginia, WUSTL, Wisconsin

Waitlisted: Penn (Wharton)

Deciding between: Michigan, Virgina, Wisconsin
Leaning towards: Michigan or Virginia

Going for Business. I live in Wisconsin, and I think that I would like to comeback to the Midwest after college. Michigan’s job placement is stellar while UVA only places about 3% of grads in the Midwest. UVA’s campus is awesome and I generally feel like the atmosphere would fit me the best. Although, I could see myself just as easily at Umich or UW. The distance is somewhat of an issue. I have no idea what to do…

bump…

Deciding between GWU and Hamilton.

GWU, people have heard of it. I have no clue what Hamilton is and I’m guessing most people are in the same boat.

RIT / WPI / U. Maryland

Computer Engineering

Pomona is an amazing school my son is graduating this year. Students love it there and the 5 colleges offers the benefits of a personalized education with the resources of a larger college. Great internship and research opportunities. I’d recommend spending a night, let us know what you decide.

I will be majoring in Finance and am stuck between Rutgers University and The College of New Jersey. I’ve visited both schools but I needed some advice in terms of the better business school. RU is ranked higher in its business school than TCNJ but I’m wary of basing my final decision on such a figure.

Accepted: Cornell, Duke, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Rice, Wash U, UCB, UCLA, UCSD
Waitlisted: Harvard
Rejected: Stanford

Deciding Between: Rice/MIT

Reasons:
Ok, so I’m having trouble deciding between these two schools. I’m looking to major in biology and going for premed. (I may also try to double in economics if I have the energy) I applied to the Rice/Baylor program and was interviewed, but results aren’t back for me though some people already got in. I’m going to assume I didn’t get in.

I really love MIT, it’s been my dream school. I love the nerdiness, the quirkiness, the opportunities, Boston being around the corner, and the culture that’s there. The people seem amazing! However, I’m not getting financial aid and if I’m looking to going to med school, it’s going to be expensive. Also, I’m worried that with MIT being so hard, I might not get a high enough GPA for med school.

Rice on the other hand is offering me their trustee’s distinguished scholarship (20kper year for four years) and the century scholars (4k for first two years as research stipend). This makes it soooo much cheaper (even cheaper than UCs for me). Also, I’ll probably end up getting a higher GPA at Rice. I visited and I really liked Rice. However, I feel that I fit with MIT better.

So suggestions?

I’m enjoying this thread!

adpage, if you want to end up working in the midwest, then go to school in the midwest. IMO.

Accepted: Claremont McKenna, Occidental, Whitman, Willamette, UO
Rejected: Pomona, Duke

Deciding between: Claremont McKenna and Whitman
Leaning towards: Claremont McKenna

Acceptances: CMU, RIT, CCS

Deciding between: CMU, RIT
Leaning towards: I’m a B student and interested in animation and graphic design. Both schools have offered me 6000 in scholarships. CMU happens to be in my hometown, so I’ve been aiming to get in over the past two years. RIT looks so fantastic that I almost felt threatened after visiting it twice in the past two weeks. They’re both renowned school; I feel that I could get along in either. If I went to CMU I could forget about RIT, but if I went to RIT I’m afraid I might regret not giving CMU a chance.

Deciding between: Rice, VT and NU
Leaning towards: VT because of the honors community.

dbamom - coming from California, you’re probably familiar with Pomona. Pomona and Carleton are VERY similar in terms of size, style, faculty interaction, etc.

kbelle08 - btwn Mudd and Cornell - consider how much visibility you like - you can be quite anonymous at a large school; at Mudd you will know and be known. Mudders seem to revel in their geekiness; Ithaca is full of aging hippies and the town reflects that (great farmers market; funky shops)

tbonist4 - same comment for Mudd and Berkeley in terms of anonymity or visibility.

colberTreportT - Hamilton is in the top 20 LACs (US News) so, like many LACs, it doesn’t have wide name recognition in the general public but is very well known in academic circles and by hiring managers. I haven’t visited, but a friend just came back and said "The campus is gorgeous (even if a bit in the middle of nowhere), the college has a unique character and very strong sense of community, the alumni are very plugged-in, and academic rigor is balanced with connections to the real world (with a cross-curriculum emphasis on public speaking and excellent writing). The admissions office was superb and our freshman tour guide was about as cute and enthusiastic as they come.

Deciding between University of Washington (Seattle) and Loyola Marymount University.
