<p>I don’t believe belonging to a society that you submit a lifetime membership fee for or show up to once a month qualifies as an extracurricular. Quality over quantity. Colleges want to see an activity you’ve stuck too for some time and it helps with the essay. “Societies” at my school are very unproductive. I’ve never heard of them doing anything except having random serve days at the school for kids to slap on an application. They also raised money for a tree they never bought. I’m sure they have a larger purpose outside of school though…I hope so. </p>
