What are your feelings and comments on ACT and SAT

Personally, which one is more difficult?
I am not sure if I should try taking ACT.
I have taken 2 SATs and I mostly had problems on Reading.
On Writing, I thought I did way better than reading, but the scores came out just a little higher than reading.

Should I take ACT though? cuz I heard that ACT also contains a bunch of time-consuming reading passages.

ACT=you need to be a fast test taker, one that can read fast, but comprehend everything as well. (Reading= 40 questions in 35 minutes, but the questions are much more straight forward than the SAT.)

SAT=you need to be able to think through the passages and questions; some can be extremely difficult.

I think the ACT English/SAT writing sections are pretty similar in topics covered and relative difficulty.

SAT math requires some creative thinking while ACT math reuqires some more in-depth knowledge as well as Trig.

ACT reading is more objective while SAT reading is more subjective plus critical reading. Generally, people “feel” SAT reading to be harder but ACT is more of a time issue for ppl.

ACT science is like a specialized reading section.

Overall, some ppl like one test over hte other. Try the ACT and see how you do.

Most of our students have done better on the ACT, which some attribute to NYS science curriculm. Another overlooked factor is that I think the ACT is better for students who don’t score as well in math because their stronger reading skills can be used on a greater % of the test. Also when colleges report their data on the “Common Data Set” they are required to only report total ACT composite score. On SAT they report both CR & M scores. Looks better for the college if admits total ACT score is at colleges 50th percentile as oppossed to an admit whose total SAT score is at the 50th percentile but math section is below 25th percentile.

I think that the SAT shouldn’t be so biased towards English because math only makes up 1/3 of the test, whereas English is 2/3.

“I think that the SAT shouldn’t be so biased towards English because math only makes up 1/3 of the test, whereas English is 2/3.”

…colleges are still only looking at the M & CR sections…the ACT is still more "reading comprehension’ dominant.
