my columbia interviewer brought up a current disparity in regards to the status of the human fetus and abortion. in the US, abortion is legal because the fetus is not technically a human being (so it is legal to 'kill' it). however, when a murderer kills a pregnant woman (ex: Laci Peterson), he can be convicted for the death of both the woman AND the fetus. so is the fetus a human or isn't it? if abortion isn't killing a fetus, is killing a pregnant woman 2 homicides or one?

i was able to debate this topic with him, but the entire time in my mind i was going 'this is really...uh...weird.'

the interview was great otherwise...

There are already tons of unwanted children in adoption homes. Those kids end up in foster care, don't get a proper education because they are forced to constantly move homes, feel unwanted, etc. I'm not saying all foster kids are like this, but it can be reasoned that this is the case.

Human Trafficking and Child Abuse
Both are equally disgusting.

Abortion
I'm pro-choice, but I don't really think a male's a opinion shouldn't matter much in a female-related question.

Capital Punishment
I believe completely in "an eye for an eye." If people know the consequences of their actions would result in their death, it'll probably result in a lower crime rate, etc. In general, I think punishments for most crimes should me more harsh.

enderkin - All this information is just from Law and Order, but the way I think it goes is that if the fetus was killed in the womb, it's not murder--it's some lesser crime. But if it's out of the womb and is killed, no matter how young it is, then it's murder.

But again, that's just how they did it on Law and Order.

Abortion- I think the government has no right to say what woman can and can not do with their bodies, but I would not want to get one. Maybe place more safeguards up so abortions are harder to get, but they should still be legal. I think the mother has more rights than a clump of cells.
