First of all, $30k isn’t private college levels. USC costs more than $55k, SCU costs close to $50k, and most others fall in that range. Secondly, the Blue and Gold Program already pays all education fees for families under $70k. Yudof wants to extend that, and in fact that’s what a large chunk of the fee increases are going towards.

What good does Ernest Lawrence do for that LAC that he attended and never taught at? My point was the same as your’s: what school(s) did Seaborg attend?

I guess I’ll have to defer to you there. As a student at a UC, I probably don’t have a good perspective on the impact of the system’s much-hyped financial problems.

it’s fine, I hope you have a good educational experience!

keep in mind 30k is a lot of money, it’s not a “public school” fee amount.

in 1980, Cal was public. You could work at Chimes pharmacy on telegraph and with your minimum wage earnings pay your tuition and housing (albeit frat which was lower cost for housing). that’s public education. Today you have to make 50k before taxes to pay your way through Cal, how many 18 year olds can get a 50k a year job in Berkeley while going to school full time. Things have changed!

There’s evidently a new definition of “public”

^ Unfortunately that “public U” definition extends to all states. There are VERY few 4 year colleges you can afford on part or even full time work. That’s one of the reasons a vital CC system is essential.
