Same.
D20 arrived back in the US last night after a very long day of traveling (22 hours from hotel in Tel Aviv to Logan airport). Left Tel Aviv 90 minutes late, which was cutting it close to make her connection. Her flight was scheduled to connect through Montreal, and in fact flightaware indicated it was headed there the whole time I was tracking status. Imagine my surprise when it landed in Toronto . She made it to her scheduled connection (also allegedly out of Montreal but somehow departing same time and gate number out of Toronto with about 2 minutes to spare. And then sat on the runway for an hour. Arrived in BOS to learn her luggage had not. I’m still scratching my head over the fact that the plane landed in an entirely different city and province - I can only guess where her bag ended up.
Anyway, glad the ordeal is behind her. I don’t think she’s going to be in any great hurray to travel by air anywhere again soon.
So glad she made it!
Scroll down, the cars get bigger.
The Southwest ticket prices went down to what I consider “back to normal” for Aug and Sept (after Aug 16). Booked a trip to Hilton Head, so would appreciate it if all the people and the hurricanes stay away while I’m on vacation.
Daughter is going to Hawaii.
My daughter lost her money on Southwest, so she booked to go to Switzerland instead. The person she had plan to travel couldn’t travel.
Well, my daughter settled pretty nicely into her Florence program and was enjoying most of everything (even though, small-town girl that she is, she finds the crowds, traffic and urban environment a little overwhelming…her Saturday excursion to Volterra was more to her speed). Lovely homestay, interesting professors, on-site awesome art history classes all afternoon, every afternoon and intensive Italian all morning. Until today…fever of 102 and a positive rapid test. Too early to know the plan of what will happen, but I can’t imagine she can catch up in the Italian class even if she’s lucky enough to have a mild case. It’s after midnight there, so nothing to do but wait. She’s only one week in, in a course of five weeks. I feel sorry for the older woman hosting her.
Sorry about your daughter. I recently had Covid. I had fever for one night and was very tired for 2 days, but was able to work on the 4th day. Maybe your daughter could do remote while she is quarantined and wear a mask to class after 5 days. I tested negative after 7 days, but CDC said you could go out after 5 days with a mask. Not sure what’s italys requirement.
I’m sorry to read this. I hope she is feeling well soon and maybe there’s an online resource she can use to keep on pace.
Heading to France next week. Anyone have answers to these questions?
-
If vaxxed my understanding is no PCR pretest is necessary. Trying to find out if original two dose counts or if booster is required.
-
For unvaxxed with recent positive, my understanding is we need copy of original positive PCR and letter from physician of cleared infection. Is paper required or are electronic docs okay?
-
Are travel certificates required and if so when/where do we get those?
-
As of today looks like only the vaxxed person is required to test before return to US. These can be antigen or PCR? Is airport best place for this? We will be at airport about 11 hours prior to flight.
-
Am I missing any forms or docs for travel there or back? We are also getting Int’l Driving Permits.
You need a booster: “Since 1 February 2022, in order for their vaccination schedule to continue to be recognised as complete, persons aged 18 years or older wishing to enter French territory must have received a booster dose of messenger RNA vaccine no later than nine months after receiving the last mandatory dose.”
https://www.interieur.gouv.fr/covid-19-international-travel
Though since the US is now classed as a green country, a test to enter is also an option.
Coming back just go to a pharmacy and get an instant test administered the day before. Much simpler and less risky than waiting till the airport.
Just went to France and it was great!
To enter France we had to show our vaccine cards at the gate in the US. You don’t need a booster IF your last dose was less than 270 days prior. And I think the last booster (if you need one) needs to be a week before travel. I think there is a site where you can enter the information beforehand but we didn’t so they just checked it at the gate. That’s the only time anyone asked for proof of vaccination.
If you’re not vaxxed I believe you need to show a negative Covid test but not sure how recent it has to be.
For entry back into the US you need a negative covid test taken no more than one CALENDAR day prior travel (not 24 hours so you’ve got some wiggle room of a few hours at least). Has to be a monitored test so you can do telehealth or go to a pharmacy. It can be antigen or PCR. The airport signs say PCR (short freak out on my part) but both are accepted (we had antigen test).
If you recently had covid within 90 days you need a letter from doctor clearing you for travel. And it looks like proof of the positive test. (we were both vaxxed so double check).
Friends booked an appointment at an airport pharmacy which they said was easy. We did ours at a local pharmacy near a train station before traveling the day prior our flight. Cost 20 euros.
Not all pharmacies do covid testing for travel but most do especially at airports and those close to the trains.
We had brought/bought some tests to do the telehealth/internet thing but really it was just easier to go in and get it done. You don’t have to fill out a million forms, worry about internet and you have papers handed to you without worrying about digital stuff. They did ask to see it before boarding the flight out.
There is an “attestation form” at the airport coming back into US that basically say “I don’t have covid, name, and date.” They were either handed to you or just on tables at the gate. Sure they filled garbage cans up with them.
One form we didn’t fill out was the EU DPLF. I’m guessing because the airline took care of it for us since we flew roundtrip. It is only for crossing borders not travel within the country. It’s long and complicated looking but really the only thing we would have needed was out flight in and out of France info since we didn’t go elsewhere.
So the pharmacy administers? How long do they take? Rapid PCRs here done by pharmacies are not instant. Timing will be tricky due to our schedule the 48 hours prior to flying back. Airport would def be easiest as we are spending the night there before morning flight.
Instant test is fine, it takes 15 mins. It’s an efficient system since the prior Covid pass requirements meant unvaccinated people had to take a test every 48-72 hours if they wanted to eat out, visit museums, use long distance rail etc.
Or take a test with online observation with you from here in the US.
20 mins max. Went in. They did both of us at once. We waited while they printed and signed forms. Paid and said “Merci!” Antigen test.
They asked what type of test we wanted and I said “fastest possible”.
If it’s a Sunday many of the pharmacies are closed so plan ahead!
Yes, very important! Testing should be available at the airport, but who wants to plan for that, kind of last minute.
Check out the Sherpa travel website, should have all current info on there.
We did it before the airport because I also wanted to stay in the town where I was in case I tested positive. Didn’t want to be at airport figuring my options.
The requirement should have been gone already. Makes me mad I had to jump through hoops to get back into my own country. Especially while fully vaxxed. And only for airline travel. And cost me extra money.
Nobody reply to me! Hopefully it will be gone soon. Could be gone in two minutes.
