What are your thoughts about travel in the time of Covid?

Had a similar experience riding for 3.5 hrs in a car with my unbeknownst to us COVID positive young adults.

One felt pretty bad, but thought it was just a headache and maybe dehydration (but didn’t want to stop for water). Came home and a friend we were with tested positive so we tested. My other kid, D22, tested positive immediately, but she didn’t feel that bad. The one who really felt really nasty took days to test positive and got a PCR test as well as doing home tests. Finally tested positive about 3 or 4 days later and it was such a dark line it looked like somebody did it with a Sharpie.

I felt a little like I did after getting my second booster, kinda like my immune system was activated, but not really bad, just kinda like my lymph nodes in my neck were on high alert (thick feeling in my neck, but not a sore throat or anything). My husband felt worse, but not terrible. Just a day or two of feeling like he was gonna get it, but in the end neither of us ever tested positive even though we were cooped up in the car with them for hours breathing the same air. I think the double boosters really worked for us.

I looked at Walgreens, 2 days to find out.

I really don’t know, I thought my PCP could order a test first. But I wonder why this is so difficult.

@Sweetgum

I spent a lot of time with my husband. I’m double boosted and so is he. It’s conceivable that I won’t get covid but it’s more probable that I will. His has lingered and I wanted to avoid that if I can. My daughter had covid recently also and felt bad for 2 days. I guess you never know how long it will last.

I think I probably have Covid now. Aches and a fever, not terrible but certainly not pleasant. It started yesterday evening. Not that easy to get test around here so I will just stay in for 10 days. We just downsized and have our old home for sale and our new home full of boxes…not the best timing to get Covid.

Sorry to hear that. No rapid tests at home? No interest in knowing “relatively sure” if you have it?

Thanks.

We had a few rapid tests a few months ago but used them. I am pretty certain I have it given the symptoms. Knowing for certain would be nice if easy, but would not change that much.

If people want to buy rapid tests, you can buy them through the pharmacy drive through. No contact with anyone.

I’ve found them at every grocery store and at the register at dollar general.

I’ve even seen them at gas stations.

It’s not fun trying to find covid rapid tests while away from home.

Thanks. I had forgotten about the drive thru. Great no contact way of getting tests. Also, it’s ridiculous but every time I go into CVS, I stay away from the test and shots area. I’m in and out in about 5 minutes and use the self check out. Figure, if someone’s sick there in CVS buying meds or getting a test.

Back to travel? We have plenty of covid threads.
Anyone travel by car from London to Ireland?

We have a week in Canada in a week. When we last went in September 2021, we had to download ARRIVECan app and test within 72 hours. I know we don’t need to test this time. We have our passport and vaccination cards uploaded freshly to the app.

  1. Someone mentioned that when they scan your passport at the border they will see your ARRIVECan info - true or false?? Anything else we are missing for crossing into Canada?
  2. On the way back to US we don’t need anything other than our passport, correct? I mean, we will all have our vaccination cards on us as well.

Well, my daughter’s best friend and her fiancé just canceled their wedding when one of the bridesmaids tested positive and then infected other members of the wedding party, including the bride and groom. They had to cancel their honeymoon to Portugal, too. Devastating. Some friends and family criticized them for canceling.

You can check here

Things can change, so IMO it’s best to check the gov’t websites before you go.

Of course. We’ve done that but I do appreciate hearing personal at-the-border experiences. The app is pretty thorough and a must so that is in place. But again, personal experiences.

Absolutely. Most of us would do the same at present. Will that be the same in 6 months? 12 months? 2 years? 5 years? The latter feels unimaginable to me.

We went to Canada for a day trip a couple of weeks ago. It was really easy to get in. We just did the ArriveCan (or whatever it’s called) during the time they said, and had our passports and vax cards. That’s all we needed.

You can buy tests online and have them sent to your house next day. Amazon has them, CVS, etc. Hope you feel better soon.

Well, glad I didn’t go into CVS as my kids test was positive. Feeling pretty good two days out. I’m hoping I don’t get sick. Has been pretty nice and I’m anti A/C so I’ve left the windows open lately. Hoping that will help and I’ll avoid a second bout.

We were in Canada last month. We noticed that no one asked to see the QR codes in the ArriveCan app. At the border our tour director asked and was told that once our passports were scanned, it linked to our vaccination cards submitted through the app.

I added Amsterdam to my trip next year. Now I have about 2 weeks with nothing planned before Greece.

You should be able to pick up free ones at a pharmacy drive through.
