I was on hold for 45 minutes. “Clark” confirmed the flight was canceled and put in a request with Norwegian Air for a refund. Yep, $35 per person “handling fee,” which has already been charged to my credit card. They can be efficient when it comes to taking money!
I’m supposed to call back in 24 hours to see if the refund was approved. He said they will reimburse the handling fee if it’s not. Sure…
I’m jealous. I was on hold for 52 minutes and then the phone was answered by a lady whose name I couldn’t catch and who was difficult to understand accent-wise.
She said mine was in the system - they were waiting to hear from SAS. There was nothing more she could do. At the end she seemed to be saying I should get a call within 72 hours, but after reading @MaineLonghorn 's post I’m now wondering if she was saying I should call back.
@oldfort, we have done multiple “luxury” biking vacations.
We did a hike, bike and helicopter trip in the Canadian Rockies, a trip to the Columbia River Gorge area of Oregon, and rode the GAP (Great Allegheny Passage) last fall. This year we’re planning to do a bike trip within Vermont during the fall. We were scheduled to go biking in Italy for my husband’s 60th, but canceled that trip. All of these trips have been wonderful, with mostly great lodging and food, along with excellent biking, hiking, etc. When we don’t know an area and don’t have time to do a lot of research, it’s a great way to go.
We like both the beach and the mountains. We go to Grand Cayman about every other year, and we pretty much “just relax” (although we have been known to take up to 8 miles hikes along the beach). We love Hawaii (Maui and Kauai), because you get both, but were not thrilled with Oahu. Want to visit the big island at some point. We have taken several vacations to various mountain areas - most recently Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, which were both pretty spectacular.
We usually like active vacations, whether it’s hiking, biking, walking, whatever. We keep talking about flying to various cities for long weekends, but so far we haven’t done it.
We are currently dealing with the same kind of issues related to retirement - city, mountains, beach… what do we really care about? (But that’s for another thread).
Just to clarify… Just Fly is the one charging the fee. It’s for their “processing” of the cancellation.
When I first asked for ours from a flight cancelled back in April there was no such fee charged and H + I finally got our refunds on May 27th or so - after I called JustFly asking about it again. SAS refunded JustFly around May 14th. (I’m too lazy to check my cc and calling record for exact dates.)
JustFly dropped the baton with my son’s. I included his each time I called, but someone never actually did it like they did with ours. When I called on May 26th and May 27th they were adamant that the fee had to be collected. People on their end said, “I’m not risking my job by waiving the fee for you.” Perhaps someone waived the fee the first time? I’m not sure. When I asked why there was a difference I was told SAS initiated the refund for ours and they are having to apply to SAS for my son’s. SAS tells me that’s hogwash.
I feel for these companies, but they aren’t refunding me out of their pocket. SAS is. They got their fees when we booked. They also got the fee for our trip insurance which we never got refunded - never even heard back from leaving messages about that by email and phone. JustFly owns the travel insurance company.
We’re willing to eat the travel insurance cost, but when the airline is willing to refund the flight cost we want it back. It’s annoying to have to give what amounts to 10% to JustFly - esp when they aren’t really doing anything for it.
Well, we are fumigating our house for termites next month so will be staying one night in a hotel. It should be pretty safe as we are still requiring 14 day quarantines of all arrivals plus adding temperature checks (though I’m not sure how helpful that will be—what do we do with feverish arrivals and asymptomstic folks and folks taking fever suppressants won’t show fever either).
Does anyone know which hotels/chains on the continent (the 48 states) is supposedly doing the best job of keeping rooms empty for several days after use and being super diligent about cleaning/distancing?
any news on Florida lifting travel restrictions from NY?
We had a trip booked to Italy. British air cancelled the flights (we would have anyway) My mother had a much easier time going through credit card company. They immediately issued full refund while fighting the airlines on our behalf. Also, the same with one hotel in Italy
last minute trip to Fort Lauderdale from ATlanta. Yes I could drive, but I hate that 10 hour drive and its only a 4 day trip. I have to visit my mother who said “I will take the risk to have you visit me”. She was crying and begging.
I will go out today and get a covid test to be sure that I am negative, at least today before I go visit on Sat. I know the results wont be back for 2-4 days though so when I get down there I will wear my mask in her place until I get the results.
Well, the Maine governor loosened the quarantine restrictions, and I’m not too happy about it. People are supposed to show proof they’ve been tested within 24 hours of their arrival in the state, but I suspect tourists will just take this change to mean, “Come on in!” We really don’t need people from New York and Massachusetts here this summer.
Proof of testing does little. It took a week for me to get the test results back. In the meantime, I could have been infected. Negative one day could become infected the next.
