what attire for an interview in Starbucks?

Would I necessarily need to dress completely formally, as in suit and ties, for this, or is a business-casual-ish attire enough?

If you are talking about a college interview, suit and tie is way overdoing it–in my opinion, anyway.

My son did not go any dressier than a polo shirt and khaki slacks, but some do dress up more than that. I think most interviewers would prefer to see students looking sufficiently groomed that they are not being disrespectful to the interviewer, but still comfortable enough to be themselves.

I don’t know your gender, but as a girl, I wore slacks/pants (not jeans) and a modest, and simple blouse. Just show up looking nice. The starbucks interview isn’t likely to be formal enough to bust out a suit. A polo or button down and pants is reasonable for guys.

I wore a black sweater, peacock green scarf, black slacks, nice flats, and sunflower earrings to my Tufts interview at Starbucks. I’ve had three interviews (all at cafes) and they have been conversational and fairly laidback. Wear semi-formal if you like, but it’s important to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing.

Hmmm well I feel quite comfortable in a suit so I don’t know if that’s a good measure to go buy. I’m a guy.

Also since this is a sort of restaurant is there any etiquette about buying stuff that I should be aware about for an interview?

Well then, don’t wear sunflower earrings. :D

Your interviewers don’t expect you to purchase their drinks for them. I wouldn’t offer to either, as it could come off as brown-nosing. While we’re talking about drinks… It’s not a good idea to get strong coffee if you’re sensitive to caffeine. I know this from experience; towards the end of my first interview, my leg began jerking a little after every sentence I finished.

NO!
at a starbucks, I wore something simple but fashionable. And its the style I wear to school normally.
Honestly, if they’e meeting at a starbucks, I don’t think they’ll care as long as you’re not overly sloppy.

I am enjoying this thread b/c I will be interviewing a prospective freshman (applicant) in a Starbucks next week :)

White tie affair.

If you’re still trying to make up your mind, figure out the tone of the interviewer’s emails. Does he sign off with his first name? If he/she seems more hip and casual, it’s okay to go with something less fancy than semi-formal.

Khaki slacks and polo shirt is what I did for all of my interviews, whether they took place at an attorney’s office (Princeton, Georgetown), or Starbucks (Harvard).

jym626 - please report back to us on what your applicants wore! (It would be a hoot if someone came with the sunflower earrrings)

^^ I was thinking the exact same thing, kajon!
