I recently got a scholarship award, so I have to cut one of these from my Common App:

AP Scholar with Distinction
National Merit Commended Scholar
NHS

They'll know I received AP Scholar with Distinction based off of my AP tests, but NHS and Commended Scholar don't seem very prestigious. So what award should I cut?

Why not? It is your application - make the most of it. As long as you are posting accurate information, go for it.

To me it especially makes sense to group all the “expected” stuff - the things all of you top students do. You don’t want to devote a lot of precious space to them because they seem a bit ordinary since all the top applicants have them, but you don’t want anyone to think you didn’t do the basic stuff. Group.

Did you actually win anything in NHS, like a scholarship? If you did, like everyone else said, keep it and group, if not, like ^ put it in EC’s.

Group the AP scholar and commended scholar as they both are somewhat automatic, and your scores basically duplicate the information; leave NHS, especially if you held a leadership role or did something significant.
