I forgot to ask at orientation...does anyone know what banks are local or on campus? D is coming from CT so we will be opening an account for her here with ATM card. I did see a couple of Wachovia's there. I want to use a bank that has a branch she can go to in case the card is lost she will still have a way to get money. This exact thing happenned to my S lost his ATM so at least he could withdraw money in person until the card was replaced by mail.

There is a bank of america ATM at the Russell house and also 2 branches that I can think of that are really close and walkable from campus

S uses Bank of America. One branch is easy walking distance from the Horseshoe area at least ,as JR said theres a BofA ATM in the Russell House and there are other branches scattered about.

Here’s a list of all the banks in the area.

We also chose Bank of America. They have a campus edge account package geared toward college students. There is an ATM on campus, and also there was a B of A bank near us. We wanted to be able to have easy access to the same bank so we could easily make a deposit in his account and/or transfer money online if necessary. We opened a B of A account ourselves for that purpose.

SueC, my S is also coming from CT and he has a Bank of America account. If your S is not 18 yet, BOA allows them to open a savings and a checking account in their own names with their own ATM/Debit card at the age of 16. There is a BOA ATM machine on campus and a huge BOA building right around the corner on Assembly St.

Sue C,
“Campus Edge” is the name of the Bank of America account package for students that MeKimber is referring to that is geared toward students. (My previous post wasn’t too clearly worded. I made it sound as if the account was about to fall off the edge of campus! LOL! Sorry!)

Thanks, all. Opened the Bank of America account yesterday…even got a Hello Kitty ATM card…lol…

D also has a bank of america account. We are in the Chicago area, and there are plenty of BoA brances here as well. One other think to consider is if your student is going to study abroad. BoA worked well when my D was studying in England last semester.

i use bank of america because its on campus and there are tons of branch locations around columbia! its also easy because so many people here have it–when my roomates and i have to transfer money we just do it through our B of A accounts instead of writing checks
