What are the banks located on campus, more particularly North Campus?

You are probably looking for ATMs for North Campus. The only one that I remember is the M&T.

There is HSBC & M&T at Willard Straight, Bank of America at Collegetown and Noyes (West Campus).

There is one M&T office in Collegetown, the rest would be in commons.

This is going to be useful for you: [Cornell University: Local Banking Services](<a href=“Page Not Found | Cornell University Division of Financial Affairs”>Page Not Found | Cornell University Division of Financial Affairs)

The only physical branches on campus are the CFCU Community Credit Union and Tompkins Trust Company which are both located on central campus in the bookstore.

ATMs in North Campus include: M & T Bank (RPCC) and Tompkins Trust Company (RPCC)
ATMs in Central Campus include: HSBC (Willard Straight Hall); Tompkins Trust Company (Cornell Store & Martha Van Rensselaer Hall); CFCU Community Credit Union (Cornell Store, Kennedy Hall, Schurman Hall and Statler Hotel)

The physical branches of more Nationwide banks are located off campus.
For example, HSBC, Bank of America, and Citizens Bank are located downtown in the commons.

Is there usually a charge/service fee for using the ATM of another company? I think for Bank of America there is, but I’m not too sure.

^ yes. Although sometimes student checking accounts exempt you from the ATM fee when using another bank’s ATM, usually the bank that owns the ATM will charge you regardless.

Choosing a bank on campus probably isn’t going to matter much - you won’t really need to be transacting cash very often, esp. as a freshman living on-campus. Choose a bank that you’ll be able to easily access back home, or wherever you plan on spending your breaks. Better still if your parents have accounts in the same bank. Keeping several accounts may help you manage your money and give you flexibility (without that nagging service fee).

what about if we get checks from working? what do we do if our bank’s not up there?

There is an option for direct deposit. So, Cornell would deposit the money directly to your account.

I found that using Tompkins Trust was useful, even though I did direct deposit with my on-campus job. You don’t have to worry about fees, and there are plenty of their ATMs around. During O-Week, the local banks generally give out some freebies for signing up, which is kinda fun.
