I think title says it all! Just wondering what banks have ATMs and/or branches on campus.
thank you

BoA will probably be the most convenient choice. Although if you use Wachovia or Chase you can reach an atm/branch without a significant hassle too. (There’s also a local credit union)

There’s a BoA in the first floor of Newcomb, it’s super convenient. There’s one on the corner as well. There’s a Wachovia near Baracks.

Is there still a Wacovia ATM by the Newcomb Dining Hall?

yes, but i use it less now that i have direct deposit

Sun Trust is also close, just down Alderman across from Foods of All Nations.

So, it would be more convenient to use BoA instead of Wachovia? I prefer Wachovia, but BoA is fine if it is easier to get to on Grounds.

I used Wachovia all of my first year (and still using it), never had any major problems. There’s an ATM in Newcomb (I know one time it was out of cash! or something… 1 time in 3 years), and one at Barrack’s, and one downtown. OTOH there is a Bank of America (not just ATM) right on the corner should you need something… Don’t know what you’d need… And an ATM at the bookstore (maybe also one in Newcomb too?). If you really prefer Wachovia I don’t see a problem with it. I really like the online banking from Wachovia too.

There’s a BofA branch (limited hours) and ATM (withdraw only) in Newcomb. The BofA ATM at the bookstore takes deposits.

I don’t think the presence of a branch here should sway you. If you are more comfortable with Wachovia, stick with them.

There are many branches nearby, but none of them open on Sundays.

(An annoying fact I once learned when I had a little financial emergency … on a Sunday afternoon.)

I have Bank of America and never had a problem with it. How often do you take out money/deposit? That’s really the only time you’ll need the ATM. And even to withdraw money, you can do it when you buy groceries. Even though BoA has ATMs on grounds, I think I went to it 2-3 times during first year. If I ever needed to buy something, I just swiped and I kept $40 in cash in my room in case something came up that was cash only. Whenever I used that money up, I would just withdraw $40 at Harris Teeter when I went grocery shopping. If you already have Wachovia, there really is no burning need to get BoA. I’d stick with them if that’s what you’re comfortable with.

What is the name of the credit union near the University? I hate Bank of America.

It’s University of Virginia Community Credit Union. I think there is an UVA Community Credit Union ATM machine on the main floor of Alderman. But there isn’t any branches on ground. I think there is a branch across the McDonald’s on Barracks Road shopping center and another branch on West Main.

btw, besides the bank of america atm machines in Newcomb hall and outside the bookstore, there is also a Bank of America ATM machine on the ground floor of O-hill dining hall, which is very convenient for first year students.

I don’t know why you would hate BoA, BoA is pretty solid. (Share price not withstanding.) Online banking on there is second to none…

The annoying thing is their 1800 hotlines which are a complete maze, but otherwise I don’t know why it shouldn’t be a student’s first choice.

I abhor BoA’s online banking. When I click on my purchases to edit the name, the arrow next to it just spins forever. The first one always works, and then the spinning arrow of doom after that. I check my bank account obsessively (otherwise I forget how much I spend) so that may be why it irks me so much. And half the time, any button I press just leads to a “loading” symbol on my browser for 20-30 minutes.

The savings plan screwed me over. Pretty much, it was like having negative interest and a bunch of undisclosed fees was added without me knowing. For example, I got charged $3.00 for depositing a check. And don’t get me started on the Saturday and Sunday due dates for Credit Cards…

Oh yeah I lost 13 dollars because they changed their policy in March and I didn’t receive an email. I don’t actually open my paper bills because I get them online, but I didn’t check savings…

db, Try Firefox instead of Safari, Amex’s online system sometimes doesn’t like to play nice with Safari either.

I was originally using Firefox. I tried it on Safari and Camino too; same doom arrow. bleck. But the AMEX site works on all of them. (totally unrelated: I love the AMEX blue card ahahahha.)
