What boarding schools would be good matches/safeties for me?

I am going to be a sophomore this year but am applying as a repeat sophomore. I don't know much about which schools would be a good match for me. I will need FA. These are my stats:

Academics: in 9th grade I had a 4.067 weighted GPA (I took all Honors classes and got mostly A's, some B+'s). I haven't taken the SSATs yet but when I took them in 8th grade I scored in the 93 percentile, if that gives you any idea of where I will score when I take them this year. And I am planning to work very hard this year and get straight A's in all Honors classes.

ECs:
- Jazz Band (flute, this will be my second year of it)
- String Ensemble (cello, this will be my second year of it)
- Concert Band (oboe)
- Marching Band (clarinet, this is my first year of it)
- Have had private piano lessons for 9 years and oboe for 1 year
- Girl Scouts (9 years) - I got my Silver Award & about 40 hours of community service, I will be getting my Gold Award this year and at LEAST 60 hours of community service
- Operation Smile (club at my school)
- Principal's Leadership Team (similar to peer leadership, group of students chosen by principal to work with the administration)
- Earth Club
- Model UN
- Rec soccer (2 years)
- will send in photography portfolio
- don't know if this counts, but I went to CTY this summer and learned some Ancient Greek

How did you get above a 4.0 freshman year?? (are there APs for freshmen?)

WOW that’s a lottt of instruments!

Since it seems you’re a very music-oriented person, find a school with an outstanding music program. I’m sorry I don’t know what particular schools have the “best”.

Interlochen is an arts school - if you’re going to major in music, that would be a great place.

^ Besides piano, it doesn’t look like she’s been doing it forever, so I’m guessing she’s not looking to be a music major.

You look as strong as any other applicants. I’ll pimp my BS as a safety/low match for you: Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, CA.

I got 99th percentile, but had a lower GPA than you, and got in really easy (I didn’t choose it for prestige).

…

hopefully all the stuff is true …
try:the hill school

I got above a 4.0 freshman year because our school weights our GPAs for honors.

Yes, I do play a lot of instruments (7) but I’m definitely not planning to be a music major.

Stevenson looks gorgeous, but I think that would be too far away for my parents :/

The top schools I’m considering right now are Peddie, Taft, Choate, NMH, Miss Porter’s, Emma Willard’s, and Kent. Are any of these schools I would have a good chance of getting into?

Didn’t you hear what hillstudent said to you just now? :)

I, personally, think you have a great chance! But then again, it depends on what the schools need at the moment. A lot of factors come into play.

Oh… LUCKY! I wish my school weighted honors x_x

I wish my son’s school HAD honors! :)

It doesn’t help you if your school weights courses, though. Colleges want your gpa out of a 4.0

Unweighted GPA maters the most, but they also look at the weighted gpa.

neatoburrito - that’s very true. I guess it could always be worse! (Some kids in Africa were wishing they could afford to go to school at all.) :)

Yep, my school weights honors…and AP people get weighted even more heavily. There are people with GPAs over 5.0, it’s crazy.

Anyone else have school suggestions?

Our public school weights everything…1.25 for “college prep” courses and 1.5 for honors and AP. The highest GPA possible is in the 6’s.

Wow, that’s a lot of weighting. Our Honors classes only get weighted .5.

Deepsy52, my honors classes don’t get weighted at all.

But all this is a little irrelevant, donchathink? Counselors have to report on the school anyways, so discrepancies should be sorted out. :)
