what's a good book to use for studying for the SAT U.S History test?

I am currently using the Barron's U.S history book. Seems okay.

My friend gave me her old REA book as well as something by Sparknotes. They seem good I think. Does anyone know if they are effective?

No, don’t use Barron’s. It’s not very good, relative to the other books out there.

I’m using the AMSCO AP US History book… it’s very comprehensive and almost, almost ensures a 5 on the AP exam (if you retain the information well).

And since the AP exam and the SAT II cover essentially the same material, it works for me.

Someone told me that the subject test goes farther than the AP test and that there could be questions that are about things pretty recent. I heard AMSCO is a great book for the AP test, but you may want to just quickly go through an SAT II book to sort out the differences between the two tests. I hear they are pretty similar except for that one thing.

To The Government:

Did you have any success using AMSCO text? What were your scores like?

anyway, thank you everyone for your input. much appreciated. Any other suggestions would be great

I’m using the AMSCO book to prepare for both the AP and the SAT II, and I’ve got the two SAT IIs Collegeboard released for USH for practice tests. I’ve heard the SAT II is much easier than the AP test and I’m taking the SAT II in June, not May, which’ll give me more time to review/do practice tests.

Good luck!

^same, AMSCO for both the AP and SAT II. idk if i should take SAT II’s in may or june though…

Is AMSCO the book to get? My APUSH teacher recommends it. I think it’s out of print though…

okay, i am gonna get the book. just to make sure, this is it right? [Amazon.com: United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination: John J. Newman: Books](http://www.amazon.com/United-States-History-Preparing-Examination/dp/1567656609)

^Yes, that is the AMSCO book.
