I'm curious about books, too. There was a link on Telebears but it didn't work. Anyone know if they have a book list somewhere?

thx.

most of the book lists are available online via the student bookstore

Very useful, thnx

Talking about books, Is it compulsory that we buy the textbook from the school? Can we buy it online, say from Amazon?

I'm buying ALL my textbooks from amazon.com

Hope I'll have enough money 4 that.

Do we come with textbooks on the first day, or do the profs give us the book list then?

ya, i was wondering that myself ;]

you can buy actual textbooks before classes start (eg those big ones that cost an arm and a leg like math, science, econ books). humanities classes always have long lists of paperbacks and the profs will often hand out a slightly altered list the first day of class, so don't buy those until after class starts.

best place to get cheap books is comegetused.com. thousands of berkeley students. i've yet to have a bad exchange and i've done a dozen or two already. it's like ebay, except you usually meet on campus. have cash with you. look up what books to buy at efollett.com (actually, i think the above link might be the same thing) or nedsbooks.com. make sure you're getting the right edition.

i've also used half.com a lot, but only for books i'm absolutely positive i'll need because the transaction has to be a week or two before classes start and you can't return them.

ned's (on telegraph, across from MLK student union/ASUC bookstore) and the ASUC are the main bookstores. ned's supposedly has cheaper used books.

there's also a huge ~3 day book exchange fair on campus in the first or so of the semester. students lug all their books out and you can walk around and find the stuff you want and bargain. i've never gone so i'm not sure.
