I checked onn telebears, which had the book, a couple weeks ago, but yesterday, all that good information dissappeared. And they only say to buy iclicker and some suggested materials.

Do we need to buy all the suggested materials in addition to required? Also, they talk about a calculator---TI80X something something. I have a graphing calculator--TI84 i believe....would this be okay?

Thanks.

Also, same goes for math1A. Do we buy both required and recommended?

I would be quite cautious about buying right now. Both the Cal bookstore and Neds have suddenly changed their listings, moving the text and OWL access down to recommended from required.

Something is going on. They may be switching textbooks or have some other option available. I would wait a few days to let this settle down.

Rider, when do you think a good time would be to purchase the books? Two weeks before move in day???

You can buy them online for pickup by your son the next day - the only downside to waiting until the day before class is that they might be out of a title which would cause a couple of day delay. On the other hand, you have two bookstores within a block of each other - the Cal Bookstore on campus and Ned’s right across the street.

If you buy any books from Amazon, your son can register with Amazon for a free “Student Advantage” account which gives him free two day shipping on any item marked “eligible for Prime” on their website.

I know about the Amazon deal, but I can’t get any of the Berkeley Custom editions on there, can I? If I buy them early from the bookstore, do they hold them until my son gets there or do they ship them to us?

You get to pick whether to have it shipped or held for pickup.

But what about the calculator? Do we need that specific one that is in required?

Yeah, just buy it after the first day of school. That way, you know if you’re going to stay in the class and what edition u need.

the calculator is used for some fairly simple calculations - stoichiometry for example - and doesn’t need to be too fancy. If it has logs and exponents, scientific and normal notation, should be adequate.

If you find out when you are in the class that you need something more than your current calculator provides you can always walk to the store and pick it up then.

No, you don’t need the specific calculator. Any scientific calculator should be fine. No graphing calculators are accepted though.

Rider, I checked online today and it said that for section 2, only the OWL was required, not the text. Does that sound right to you? If so, how do I buy just the OWL? The bookstore does not sell the OWL without the text. Does Ned’s?
