I'm just about to start my Junior year, and looking to have my first go at the ACT this year.
I plan on studying as much as I can before I have to take the test in April, and have ample free time to do so. As I've said in the title, I am hoping to reach a perfect score.

From what people are suggesting on other threads I have this list:
Kaplan ACT 2012 Premier
Gruber's Complete SAT Guide 2012, 16E (Specifically for math)
The Real ACT 3rd Edition 2011
Cracking the ACT, 2012 Edition -Princeton Review
Barron's ACT 36, 2nd Edition: Aiming for the Perfect

I'm looking to improve as much as I can in all areas the test covers. I want to know if I should omit any of these books from my shopping list and add others that could help me more.

Note:
-I do not care if Barron's teaches material harder than what is on the ACT - that is the level of knowledge I want to have before attempting to take the test.

I just got The Real ACT so definately that one will help. It has real not similar questions like in Kaplan’s, Barron’s, and Princeton’s. Read mixed reviews, but some like Princeton’s 1296 question ACT book

I recommend Princeton Review’s “Cracking the ACT” and “The Real ACT.”

Princeton’s “Cracking the ACT” offers you different skills on how you should take the ACT.Do not go too much with the practice tests offered in this book because it is very inaccurate.

“The Real ACT” offers you 5 real, previously issued ACT tests, to see how well you are in ACT. Do not believe, not even read, any strategy in this book because they are obvious and untrue. Also do not believe any practice questions’ answer explanation because they never guide you how you should really do their question.

Definitely try Barron’s ACT 36 since you are aiming for a perfect score. I have just recently started using it and I have already seen significant improvements in my scores on practice tests.

I got the barrons act 36 book as well. However, I struggle to find anything really helpful in it. I am at a 29 currently but am aiming for above a 32+. How did you use it to help you? Did you use the strategies to help bring up your score or what? What helped you in the book?

I used the REAL ACT book from my libraries to save money since they’re quite expensive.

I got a 35, so almost perfect. But my advice to you isn’t to get a bunch of random advice books, but to take as many practice tests. Eventually, all the questions begin falling into a few categories and once you know how to approach each question, you’ll do great!
