Everyone seems to praise reading for its amazing effects on CR scores, but can anyone suggest certain books that are challenging enough to help the most?

I’ve been reading Sherlock Holmes and I think I’m improving. I improved by 100 points after reading the first two novels. Now I am reading the short stories. I hope it gets me up along the 700 range. Good luck.

PS - I think I will soon be finishing the Sherlock Holmes series. Would like to have some suggestions for reading. How is the Inheritance Triology? Or the Dan Brown novels. Thank you all!

Sherlock Holmes is a great read for improving on the CR sections. After you finish with Doyle, I think other subtle British writers like Kazuo Ishiguro are great (Artist of the Floating World, Remains of the Day)(If you happen to understand both of those books, then I congratulate you). Be forewarned though, don’t read any of that mainstream ********, those sort of books were made for herp derp audiences.

@brainblip Thanks for the advice. But, to be honest, I don’t quite understand some parts of the book ( like a peculiar sentence in a story) which kind of makes me think I’m not improving at all. I understand meanings of all the words in it, but just can’t get why that sentence was put there. I tried searching them on google but couldn’t find any result.

Does anybody know any website that discusses these sort of things? Or if I just put up the sentences in a post here on CC, would that be beyond the topic of this forum?

I read the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, bloody brilliant!

Sadly, I have not read many books in the past few months (other than school-needed ones)

MUST READ!!!

^ did u improve in CR after reading that?

Tess of the D’Urbervilles is a good read :). I think it brought up my scores by about 60 points on the PSAT (or 600 on the SAT).

^ So it brought your score from 200 to 800? O_o

^No, I started with ~1800 (180 on PSAT) ;).

Read Lolita by Vladimir Nobakov. You’ll probably get the highest score possible on CR.
