As a high school junior, I may be ahead of the game here in terms of choosing a major...but I know what I want: business with technology aspects. Now, I've been spending a great deal of time looking on college websites and their business/computer science classes, and realize that computer science alone(or science in general) isn't precisely what I want...it's too "sciencey" for me.

When I get older, I would LOVE to work in a technology company. Nothing would make me happier in the world than to work in Silicon Valley for Apple, eBay, or Sony, etc. on their business end. I also would love working for Disney (specifically for their parks, managing them). Remember, I don't think I want too much science, but I do want business infused with technology.

So...what do I go into? Which colleges offer great programs for this? I'm looking at Bentley University for a business major, and maybe take some programming, management information systems classes. What do you think?

As well, I have always had a passion for the hotel industry and would be definitely open to tying this in with business and technology (going along with that whole disney, theme park idea).

Most people who will be in businesses that involve technology will most likely have a science background. In most fields you will be competing with engineers who have MBAs, so you are going to need to define what makes you special. Routes through MIS, Marketing, and Finance can get you to managing roles of technology companies. However, you will need enough tech prowess to be able to speak intelligibly about your companies technology.

Question: If you are afraid of "sciency" stuff then why would you LOVE to work in a technology company?

Thanks for the responses so far! I guess I was spot on with looking at majors, as whenever I go to a business school's webpage I always look for the Computer Information Systems and Management Information Systems degrees. Oh, and you proposed a very good question about the sciences...I do LOVE technology, but while I do like seeing how it works and assembling the chips, I'd rather have a job with more business than computer science in a tech company. You're definitely right, though...I should be getting myself familiar with technology and SHOULD be taking some more sciency classes.

And VectorWega, you raise a valid point as well. However, all of my family/life is on the east coast and I just don't think that california is an option...yet.

Thanks again! Does anyone else have suggestions?

As I read this post, MIS screams out to me.

But what you'd want to do is go to a school with a management information systems/computer information systems program that is emphasizes the computer part just a little bit more, since for the firms you want to work with (Apple, etc.,) you'll probably want to be competitive with the computer side of things and not just the business side of things.

For hotel industry/theme parks: CORNELL HOTEL SCHOOL (this is totally where I want to go for hotel school...best in the country)
For other business stuff: Wharton (obviously), NYU Stern, etc.
I have to agree...if you are really interested in computers maybe major in a computer science area then go on to get your MBA....
