So in my mind, extracurriculars were always clubs, sports, dance, etc. Now I've been seeing creative writing at home and other such things counted as an extracurricular which makes me question, "How many extracurriculars do I have?" For my application so far, I have a science symposium club, an academic competition club, a volunteer club, and two cultural/spanish club. However, I write, I play volleyball, and I do some other things for "fun" but I'm not sure if I should count them as an extracurricular.

Also, I have a question about past extracurriculars. Like, last year I participated in Girls Leadership and a mock trial. I also did Reading Olympics for 3 years running but my high school doesn’t have the same extracurriculars, but I feel like these extracurriculars should be mentioned in my application.

Anything that’s done outside of your school’s curriculum, hence the term “extracurricular.” Don’t mention things to shabby, because that’ll just make the AO’s shake their heads.

I would refrain from saying those as they might contact that club leader.

Which ones shouldn’t I mention? I wasn’t going to mention “creative writing” because it’s just something I do on the side. But the other clubs and activities, I was/am an active participant in.
