What can happen if my counselor doesn't submit my midyear report?

I am international student. I am applying to a host of colleges as regular decision. I am wondering what can happen if my counselor does not report my midyear scores in Feb. Will the colleges automatically reject my application considering it "incomplete" / disqualify it? Will it ignore the absense of midyear report and go ahead on making decisions based on the information that are available? Or will they contact my counselor and ask her to send the reports?

Also, how are "predicted" grades reported? Are predicted grades something that the counselors just makes up themselves? Or is it like a mock-exam and the "predicted" grades are based on the results of the mock (practice) exam?

Bump

AFAIK there are no predicted grades in US College admissions.

If a midyear report is required, then your GC will have to send it. How the particular school goes about it (whether they just reject you or contact your GC) is up to them.

@Woandering‌ Is it better to submit really really bad midyear report than not sending it at all?

@ssgupta‌

Well if it’s required, I’d imagine you’d have to anyway, or your application won’t be reviewed. I’m not an expert though. Talk to your GC. If the school says the report is a requirement, then you’ll have to send it.

If a mid-year report is required and is not sent, the college will probably nudge the GC. If a mid-year report is not sent, you will not be admitted. Period. End of Story.

What is a midyear report exactly?..Would that be the transcript of my half yearly exams in my 12th grade?..Help, I am confused.

Yes @michaelite‌

@skieurope‌ will the college nudge me as well?

My GC is not very committed. I will have to call her/ remind her numerous times to make sure she sends it if asked.

Perhaps, but it is more likely they will go to the GC, since that is not something in your control.

@ssgupta‌ @skieurope‌ My counsellor has sent everything already. Even my 12th half yearly grades. Would I have to send my midyear transcript again sometime in February?..I am an international student btw

@michaelite If you are on a different academic schedule from US students (e.g. Japan, Australia, India) and your mid-year concluded prior to December 2014, you do not have to send in anything additional until your final grades are published.

At many schools, your app is not reviewed until all items are complete in it. So if you never send the mid year report, you could be considered an incomplete applicant and no decision gets made and your app is flushed. That is a category with some students in it each year, because some kids just run out of steam or decide to drop a college from consideration after starting the initial app process. So it’s not an unusual situation. You aren’t going to be assessed until those grades are turned in and once a certain time period is passed, you don’t get consideration for admissions. Simple as that.

@cptofthehouse‌ If that happens, will I get a rejection letter in May or nothing at all?

You need to check each school to which you are applying to determine exactly what is needed from international apoplicants rather than US applicants because it can vary. For example, mentioned above is predicted grades and someone said that is not possible with US colleges and you are required to submit mid-year report. Well, it is possible at most colleges for internationals in IB or A-Level programs to submit predictive grades and not submit mid-year reports. For example here is some of what Yale says about Internationals relating to predicted grades and mid-year reports:

"All students apply to Yale College using the same application: the Common Application and the required Yale-specific questions. International students in an International Baccalaureate, A-Level, or other national exam-based curriculum should also submit predicted examination results. This information may be self-reported on the Common Application but should also be included in the Secondary School Report.

“Only submit the Midyear Report if you receive new grades or term reports in the middle of the school year. Most international students do not need to send us this form. All admitted students must submit the Final Report, which provides us with final schools grades/exam marks/diploma when you finish secondary school. There is no need to complete the Final Report until after you gain admission to Yale.”

So do your research for each college and if you cannot find the informastion send the college an email requesting the answer.

If you’re enrolled in an international school that follows ALevels or IB, your “predicted results” (ie., what your counselor is willing to vouch you’ll get based on your work so far) are your midyear report. If your predicted results are too far off the mark (ie., more than one mark off in 2 subjects) and you were admitted, you run a high risk of being rescinded (ie., “un-admitted”, ie., you lose your admission).
So if your counselor says: ABB and you can BCC, you’re in big trouble. If your counselor says ABB and you get ABC, you’re okay.
