What can I do as a wait-listed applicant?

Is there more that I can do other than accepting a place on the wait-list? Is it really such a bad thing to call the admissions office to ask what more can I do or to reaffirm my interest? Also, can I send in an additional essay? My resume was a bit messy, will sending in a neater one help?

Thanks!!

I was waitlisted at two places back in 2009 when I graduated. Both of them later admitted me. At the first place, Washington and Lee University, I promptly returned every card and email that they sent inquiring if I was still interested. For the second place, Bucknell, I had already established an ongoing email conversation with their band director, so I told him what had happened and he kindly went to the adcoms on my behalf. Obviously, it’s better if you establish a campus contact before you need it, but perhaps it’s not too late??? If you can’t do that, they just reply that you’re still VERY interested every single time they ask. And keep your fingers crossed! Good luck wherever you end up!

also has anyone ever written a letter of consideration? any idea how long it should be?
