To clarify: I'm an ED2 applicant, just so I don't get any RD applicants any more nervous because I know decisions aren't out yet. I think..

I have already said yes on the waitlist website thing I got through email.
I've emailed my regional admissions officer (got no reply, but I did...hope he read it?)
What can I possibly do? Should I submit additional letter of recs, explain my life (I've dealt with immigration, learning a new language, as well as being first-generation, low income, and only English speaking member of family) that I hadn't mentioned in my original Common App?

Honestly, I heard Emory only admits about 5% off their waitlist... so there's probably not much chance, but I'd rather try everything I can before I give up.

I also got wait listed at Emory.
The decisions are not out yet for the RD so we have to wait till the end of April ~ mid May to get our letters… which sucks.
I’ve emailed the admission officer too but got no reply.
All the wait listed people, i think, sent an email saying that Emory is their first choice.
You could talk to your school university counselor and ask him/her to send an email for you.
Because, admission staffs usually don’t bother to reply to the students’ emails. but then they WOULD answer the counselors’ one. no?

I heard last year Emory accepted NO ONE from its wait list which is frustrating.
But the year before, it accepted 100. ( out of 700 i think? ) 1/7 chance to get in or 0%.

Instead of talking about your background, I think it would be better to talk about how involved you are (at school), how motivated you are, how the university interests you.

good luck!
Emory is still my first choice too. Let’s hope the RD applicants decline their offers from Emory! haha.

bestmemories2015, good luck to us!
I also heard the thing about last year no one being accepted off the list…great. I’m hoping we will both get lucky this year though. Who knows? Anything can happen!
Ehh. I agree with them not responding to student emails. I didn’t expect a reply because I’m probably one of the hundreds who sent in email stating Emory is my top choice, etc.
I really do want to talk to my counselor. Have you sent one? I’m not even sure who the email from my counselor should be directed to - the regional admissions rep or the general office of admissions. Ahh. But really, good luck to us!!

Magnesium… REALLY!? Oh my gosh. What kind of questions were you asking!? I got NO REPLY whatsoever and now I feel doomed. I felt that I had stated my interest also…but I guess not.

Really?
I sent one a week ago. No reply.
I seriously want to be able to talk to someone. It just feels like I’m not doing anything.
Aaah. Guys, good luck!

hmmm…well I used to email the main admissions email about financial aid and my application, and some counselor always replied and signed “counselor on duty.”
Last week, I emailed my regional counselor about how GPA is calculated, about a mistake my teacher made on the rec, other stuff, (and decided to also conveniently include how it was my first choice), and she replied the next day with detailed responses.

Hope that’s a good sign for me as I’m waiting my RD decision?

yeah, that’s what I thought, but I was wondering how the admissions officers know that you’re a a waitlisted applicant. Does your e-mail address get tagged or something?

Well, i’ve been emailing the same person since the beginning so…
I also said that i was waitlisted in the email, he knows it that way i guess.
I asked my counselor to email him because he ignored my email.
We’ll see.
Aaah. Hopefully emory 2015 guys!
Hope to see you

Unless emory has changed procedure, all waitlist students are “assigned” an admissions counselor after accepting the waitlist; call them and tell them you are on the waitlist and ask who your admissions counselor is now; it is not necessarily your regional counselor…that may be why your regional is not responding…

If the “wonderfully helpful” ladies who answer the phone don’t know what you are talking about, ask to speak to anyone in the actual admissions office…

bestmemories2015 - agggh. I’ve only emailed regional rep once because to be honest, I’m not quite sure what I’m even supposed to say… and also worried about being annoying and pushy! My counselor is just telling me to email “once or twice” and wait. I don’t really think that’s the way to go… AGH. Hopefully Emory '15 for both of us!!!

rodney - I never knew this! thank you so much. I will definitely call and ask tomorrow. Thanks again!!

Emory keeps on saying it is need blind. I didn’t ask for any FA. Still got wait listed…
Also, international students in ED , kinda hv to be able to pay. But then if youre not int, I guess it’s better?

I’m not an international student and applied for FA… A LOT of it. I was thinking if it isn’t really need blind, then I would tell them I don’t need it. But if that doesn’t make a difference, then eh…might as well. Plus, I saw that you and missxryu said no one was accepted off waitlist last year. I’m not totally sure, but my school’s college counselor had a list of stats and it mentioned that a little over 1,000 students accepted to be on the waitlist for Emory, and 46 were accepted…so I guess it’s better than NONE, right?

46/1000
…
i don’t even know if it’s better. because it says on the website ‘up to 100 students out of 700’ which gives a 1/7, about 14% chance.
but 46/1000… 5% chance to get in!? 5… it’s harder than Harvard.

Yeah… just wanted to let you know that it wasn’t absolutely 0%! But honestly, no…that does not give me hope at all. And why can’t I view the waitlist letter anymore on OPUS? Weird.

I know right? I went on it few days ago. And nothing s there…
well… We have about 0% to 14%.
But around 5%…
Ah the numbers…
Wtv. If the admission people like us all, they will take us !
Let’s hope for the best
