What can I do over the summer that will add to my resume?

This summer may sound like a dream to some (absolutely no activities planned yet), but my ability to exult in the joys of a summer may be hindered by my plans to go off to a great university, for which I'll need good extracurricular activities.

In short, can someone please suggest some activities that I can do this summer to bolster my college app/resume? I can't do a job (I'm only 15, and 15 year-olds can't work, correct? and very few jobs are available and I also have no means of transportation, ie. a ride)

Also, has someone gotten a job when they're 15 years old? How can I go about procuring such a job as I have yet to find a job available to me due to my age...

Ga? “my ability to exult in the joys of a summer may be hindered by”… lol… are you really 15?

Well… babysitting is legal even at 15. Or just volunteer somewhere.

Thanks for the helpful response.

I have already looked into various groups that will be going to South America, etc, but I am not 16, which happens to be a big requirement for all of these expeditions…

University camps = eh, I’m not too sure of what I want to make of my life or what university…

Any other suggestions?

If you like animals, volunteer at the zoo.
If you like books, volunteer at the library.
If you want to be a doctor, volunteer at the hospital.

Do what you love. You shouldn’t be trying to bolster your resume. You should be trying to help others and enjoying it. Don’t be fake.

I agree with aluminum boat, do what you want to do. If it helps your resume, great. If it doesn’t then fine.

If you have an interest in a particular subject, see if you can take a summer course on it, either at a University or High School. I went to RISD for 6 weeks to work in filmmaking and drawing. It was a great learning experience and I did it not for my college application, but because I was looking forward to having a great time.

Volunteer, internship, job.

If it costs money, don’t do it. Impressive things aren’t bought.

If you won’t enjoy it, don’t do it. Doing what you love is what colleges want to see.

Wow, Satiraparens is obviously being SARCASTIC… Again, I’m amazed at how OP can’t pick this up.

Not entirely true. Many of the creative writing programs are very good, but expensive, because there are little funding for them.

Volunteer. My municipality has a volunteen program which can help you crank out 45 hours of community service a summer while hanging out with other kids and having a good time. It all goes to pretty good causes: weeding in parks, playing balloon vollyball with elderly folks, bagging frozen salmon at the Food Bank, etc.

“Wow, Satiraparens is obviously being SARCASTIC… Again, I’m amazed at how OP can’t pick this up.”
LMAO, i was actually completely confused as to if that post was serious or not. my dad would actually say most of those things :/

^Are you serious? He/She sounds so sincere… I can’t even pick up any sarcasm.

He’s NOT being sarcastic. You should see his thread in the SAT board. He’s either really weird or a ■■■■■

There’s always getting paid under the table

I agree. But I like to work for my money so I like to go with prostitution

T’aint work if you love what you do

True dat. And I do love it!!

Volunteer Work- it’s really a great thing to help out around your community because you’ll learn something from it + you get hours

Take courses at a local CC- you can get credit for some of your classes at school and taking additional classes will probably help with your resume

Basically, do something productive. Don’t waste your summer if you know you that you could be volunteering 5 hours a week/taking a CC course/attending a college summer camp/etc. and have nothing else to do.

Everyone does volunteer work. It’s cliche.

^ I agree.

Go to a country like Angola in Africa, choose a cause you support, and enlist in the revolutionary forces. As a 15 year old, you are far above average recruiting age in many of these organizations. Learn how to operate anti-tank missiles, and then help bring down the 100,000 strong government army with your comrades. It’ll be an exciting and unique experience.

For some reason this just seems fake.

After bolding select sections, I’ve decided this was intentionally ironic.
