What can I do to have a better chance?

I am currently a junior going to senior year this fall. I have been looking at U mich Ross and I really like it so far. I have a 3.3 UW GPA(OUCH) at an average/mediocre high in MN. Freshman year I was the new kid and I didn't like it much so my GPA was like a 2.8, Sophomore year I got a 3.46, Junior year has been a 3.5 which is still low for Umich.

What type of ACT scores would I need to be competitive?
Would owning a business as an EC help chances at all? I have started many services selling stuff for video and marketing services for businesses. One of the things I do is fix reputations for doctors/lawyers and promote client websites through business/social media/content creation. How good is of an EC is this for Ross?

I am in DECA (1 year), 200 hours of community service and I am in Intern Mentorship Program for business. Even if I don't get into Ross do I have a good chance of getting into LSA and transferring?

Odds are, you will not get in Ross preferred. The accepted average GPA is 3.90. Not to mention that those kids have superior business concentrated extracurricular.

Your best shot is to get into LSA and apply regular for Ross. But with 3.3 GPA, LSA is still a very far reach. ACT score won’t really help make up GPA. They are supposed to follow each other closely to give a surer picture of the student.

Could make a difference if you are a Native American or have some kind of exceptional hook.

Yay go Minnesota! I moved from MN to MI when I was entering high school several years ago. Your GPA is pretty heavy, and it’s unlikely you will get in to Ross or LSA :/. Umich puts a lot of emphasis on your gpa.

I concur. Michigan puts a lot of emphasis on GPA, more than test scores. There were several students rejected this year with very high GPAs and high test scores, and the university has become much more competitive over the last few years.

Getting into UofM at this point is going to be a major reach. A 3.3 GPA with non-resident status puts you in a very bad position since Michigan considers GPA to be the most important factor in admission. The average accepted UW GPA for an LSA student is a 3.9 according to the 2012 stats[/url”>http://www.lsa.umich.edu/UMICH/facstaff/Home/Office%20of%20the%20Dean/LSA%20Facts/2012LSAFactSheet.pdf]stats and unfortunately the 2014 admission cycle is expected to be significantly harder than 2012’s ( >8,000 more applicants in 2014 over 2012). Realistically, your chances for acceptance to LSA are very low, and are all but non-existent for Ross.

Make a totally original YouTube video about how much you love the university.

You would need a 34+ ACT IMO to be somewhat competitive. A better course may be to try for Madison and take advantage of the reciprocity. Being from MN gives you a little better chance than say someone from NY/NJ (MI is looking for some geo diversity); but still tough.

Umich admittance is very unlikely. Ross preferred admit isn’t happening. I think Minnesota should fit you well, though.
