I am currently getting into my junior year of college majoring in Neuroscience and I began realizing that if I don't get into a medical school, I have no clue what I would do! I love neuroscience, read research papers for fun, want to be a neurosurgeon, but despite my extracurriculars and internships my GPA is not very good and that could well be my ticket to the curb. My university only offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in neuroscience and that scares me as well. I was looking at trying to do a Petroleum Engineering minor but don't know if that would really qualify me for anything.

Is it hard to get into a graduate school to pursue a masters or PhD in neuroscience? I also have a lot of student loans (80k right now), would any program pay for graduate school? ANY help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Bachelor of Arts and Science. The difference is an entire word. Kidding. The BA usually offers a more flexible curriculum.

A lot of people with neuroscience degrees go on to graduate school, for a wide variety of subjects. And no, there is no reason to minor in Petroleum Engineering. I don’t think that’s even possible at my school…

I am also interested in becoming a neurologist, but am worried that I will not get into medical school. If I choose to major in neuroscience in college, what will I do without going to medical school?

Did you end up going to graduate or medical school?

I’m also a junior majoring in neuroscience. I had been planning on going to medical school to become a neurologist all along, but now I don’t think that is going to happen. I have no idea what I’m going to do now =/ I don’t think I’d enjoy being a researcher either, even though I’ve done a few research internships already. Suggestions???
