What can I do with a biology degree?

Hey! At the moment, I’m planning on majoring in biology to go on to medical or dental school. In case I don’t end up going that route, what else can I do with a biology degree?

Many sites online say further education (medical, dental, veterinary school), research, or teaching. Any other ideas besides something that requires more education (and money lol)?

Thanks!

A Bachelor’s in biology without further education or schooling is pretty useless on its own, unless you’re interested in low-level lab tech jobs for the rest of your career. This is assuming you want to work in an area related to your degree. If you’re willing to branch out, there are a lot of jobs in other areas that ask for a Bachelor’s in anything.

You would have to go on to graduate school but there are options. PA/PT/OT/Pharmacist/CLS/RN (BSN)/Research.

There aren’t a whole lot of options besides grad school and other health professions schools. If you looking for a major that might offer better job opportunities with just a bachelor’s degree, you might look into microbiology instead of a general biology option.

A big way you can make a biology degree more marketable is by adding quantitative skills, such as maths and computer science. These are in big demand right now with the ever-growing area of bioinformatics and biotechnology. A minor in either of these, or even just relevant skills and coursework, could put you in a good position.
