I'm starting to feel like my major is useless. I have no dirrection. Where can anthropology get me in life?

Hello,
Honestly, BA degrees in liberal arts are pretty much worthless insofar as getting a job is concerned (otherwise of course, it can be very fulfilling). I just graduated with a degree in art history and felt much the way you do. I think in order for you to stay in your field, you will most definitely need a graduate degree - and for anthro - typically a PhD. With that said, you can also explore other career options.

How far along are you in your degree? You can consider a more ‘practical’ minor or even be a double major?

Regards

Military pays big bucks for anthropologists.

@Berkeley. Wait really? Wow, I didn’t know that. Do you know of anywhere I could find information about this?

@Fragonard. I’m a sophomore right now. I’ve thought about doing a more practical minor, but whenever I look at internships, they always care about my major and not my minor.

Are you a general anthro major or specializing in one branch? As an adult, I took a cultural anthropology class at the local CC and I enjoyed it and wished that I had taken this class back in my undregrad days instead of so much sociology. The idea of observing and asking the population you are working with to have a say in what approaches to use seems to me more respectful. I recall looking up some websites (provided by the CC) that listed current jobs in this field and there were indeed jobs. And as another poster mentioned, many were government work. The head of your anthro department should have all this info for you. make them earn their pay :)

[Here is what UC Berkeley graduates with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology reported to the career center survey](https://career.berkeley.edu/Major/Anthro.stm).

I’ve always thought that anthropology would be a really interesting major for a pre-med student.
