I have a lot of free time after school. My sport hasn’t started yet, and all extracurriculars happen in the morning before school. I thought of self-studying an AP course, but I’ve heard that’s not really important and AP exams don’t matter all that much. I enjoy being outside, but I want to do something with it. I love the environment. What can I do with my freetime to better myself?
You could volunteer with a local environmental or environmental education organization. How much time do you have before your sport starts? You could get a job and start saving money.
We have winter practices starting in a month or two, but those are only an hour and are completely optional. I’ll think of those two. Thank you!
absolutely you are the lucky few who actually have time.maybe UP a class or two. volunteer or take on team leadership for like mock trial or model UN or some extracurricularss. Work. or even voluteer at a hospital if premed is what you would like. and READ… its sooo important youdo that. more importantly find your passion and do deeper.
and fFYI…AP exams are def important…
Oh shoot you should definitely read. It doesn’t matter what it is, just read. If you haven’t taken your standardized tests yet, reading a lot right now will really, really help you. By increasing your reading speed, you’ll spend less time reading the questions and more time thinking about the right answer.
I love to read but I don’t read enough, I’ll definitely read more.
I was tossing around the idea of studying neuroscience, so should I ask the local hospital about volunteering?
I’m taking the SAT in the spring for a 2-year residential high school, so I’ll definitely read more to not only just read but to help with that.
Thank you all
Ski racer provided the very best suggestion. The academic benefits of reading helps you read more quickly with comprehension, increases vocabulary especially if you look up words, helps you ski to find specific information in text, and helps you relax when a large book of modest interest is assigned. You will learn all sorts if writing styles. Reading is a free education and was how a good education was provided in the past, for example reading law. Nothing beats being well read.
Beyond that, take a book with you everywhere so you can occupy yourself while waiting, riding on public transportation or swinging in a hammock at the beach. Even Silas Marner and Heidi are better than nothing to read.
Volunteering is a excellent way spend time and develop an important life orientation. Your church or an organization like scouting are good places to start.
Dog walking is often appreciated so the beasts get longer outings. Picking up trash and disposing of it is appreciated, but be careful not to pick up nasty things and wash your hands.
