Hey guys :)! I’m a sophomore and my grades are absolutely terrible… I had a 2.8 last semester and this semester isn’t looking any better hehe. I’m taking two AP’s though, and I’m pretty confident in getting 4s in both, and I got a 2270 on my SAT. Even if I start getting 4.0s starting my junior year, I don’t think I’ll get a culmulative GPA higher than 3.5 heh. So what should I do? Go to a city or state college and hope to transfer? I originally aimed to be a pharmacist and go to one of the prepharm programs, but that seems to be out the window now…
What is going on when you get a 2270 on the SAT and yet have a 2.8 GPA? That’s a big problem. Makes it look like you don’t work hard, and the top schools want students who work hard. But, NO, you do not plan to transfer. Get those grades up and go to a decent college. Trending up is always a good thing. If you can’t get into an elite school, you can still go to college and do well there if you apply yourself. Start now.
Hey! So when I was in highschool I was in the same position. So just work your butt of getting good grades and see what happens. If you dont get in anywhere your community college should accepts any AP course you got a 4 in; and that will save you ALOT of time!!! Make sure to do tons of extra activities! Like Volunteer and participate in lots of school activities. You seem like a bright student; get your act together now!
I would say keep your head down and study hard. Make sure you work hard and get straight A’s from here on out. Most schools (city and state colleges) will look at GPA and a 3.5 GPA is pretty solid. However, you have to make sure you can actually reach that goal which will require dedication, hard work and no procrastinating.
Study hard. Colleges love an upward trend; you probably won’t get into Harvard, but you can look at some pretty solid pharm schools with a 3.5
How are you getting 4.0s in AP classes, but bombing the rest?
I’ll second @stepay as it looks odd that you have such a low gpa. I was the exact opposite of you (low sat but high gpa) and the few colleges I visited basically said they would rather have someone that puts in the effort to get good grades vs someone who doesn’t fully apply themselves but is extremely bright (which to me is what a very high sat score paired with a low gpa shows) . If I were you I would lay off the ap classes not cause they are too hard but a lot of work, and stick with honors classes and get that gpa up asap. With that amazing sat score if you get that gpa up to a 3.3-.4 you should be much better off.
Many colleges have guaranteed admission for students with test scores similar to yours. I believe there’s a thread dedicated to them.
