What can I do with my major/minor?

Hello! I am a sophomore in mechanical engineering, and I was thinking about doing biomedical engineering as a minor. My problem is I don’t know if that would be a waste of time. What kind of jobs could I get with this kind of major+minor?

Frankly I am mystified by what kinds of answers you are hoping for since your major/minor are so specific. But just a quick search resulted in this very pertinent article.

Mechanical engineers design and create all types of devices, from tools to engines. As a result, a diverse range of companies employ them, though engineering and architecture firms are by far the largest employers of mechanical engineers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 21 percent of mechanical engineers in 2010 were employed by architectural or engineering companies. By comparison, the second largest sector – scientific research and development industries – employed just 6 percent.

In addition to mechanical engineering companies, automation, aerospace and biomedical engineering firms employ mechanical engineers. So do architecture firms, where the engineers ensure safe construction of the creative designs architects produce. (Emphasis mine)

So you can see that there are tons of diverse opportunities, and that in particular there seems to be a strong niche where your specific BME courses for the minor will make you more attractive to people doing work in that area, which I assume means prostheses at the very least but I know also means a lot more innovations in the interface of humans and mechanics.
