I'd like to find a good biology school. It'd be nice if it were small or medium size school.
I would like to be in the north whether it is in the midwest or in the east. I guess not to north. I don't want to freeze.
Maybe somewhat diverse.

with your SAT score, you wont be able to go to prestigious schools like the IVY's, or Stanford, or schools like that. if you can get ur SATs in the 1300s, you will have a shot at some of them.

your gpa and rank is very good, so this will help you

I know, I know. There is no way I can get a 1300. I just want to go to a good decent school. I'm shootin for an average 1200. Is that not any better

The SAT is not garbage....it is great. I think it should count for more..I know a 4.0 student who just isn't very smart at all and a 3.0 who is really really smart....the SAT is a common benchmark that makes it easier for colleges to evaluate everyone on an equal footing. Same with the ACT. I think emphasis on all these "extracurriculars" are a waste, unless you start a business or do something worthwhile like the aformentioned NASA Sharp.

gpa gauges ur work ethic, not ur ability... there's agirl in my bio class who get's d's on all her tests but gets a higher grade than me even though i do significantly better... which is why the sat is in place... so colleges can see ability and work ethic... but spcifically, if u can even get to 1250... u have a shot at brown/cornell/dartmouth... ur a urm, and have amazing grades, just show them what u offer and i'm sure u stand a shot

Hi, JJKitty
For LAC's, you might look at SAT optional schools that are looking for diversity - Bowdoin, Mt. Holyoke, Conn College, Skidmore. The rest of your resume is wonderful!

Yeah the SAT is a common benchmark, but like they said, it also weeds out the people who work hard and also have talent from the lazy brainiacs. Someone with a 1600 SAT two years ago at my school got rejected everywhere because he also had like a 2.5 GPA. Another person who worked insanely hard at school, had good EC involvement and a 1350 got into Brown last year. The only thing the SAT measures is how well you know certain math and vocabulary, and how well you perform under pressure. When it comes down to it, SATs are an easy way to distinguish between two fringe candidates. But using them to any greater degree than they already are is dangerous, in my humble opinion.

Now, Miss Kitty, don't sell yourself short. Your incredible rank and GPA are very nice, and you've obviously shown some outstanding dedication to certain activities. Try for that 1250 or so, and see what happens.
