What Can I Do?

So, here is my story. I am going to be a junior at Ross. I like business a lot and really look forward to working in finance. However, I am also really into learning languages. Last semester, I took intensive spanish at the RC, and I am working now for the whole summer in spain to get really good. My teacher said by the end of the summer I should indeed be quite good in Spanish. Then, I want to secure what I learn this summer next year in the second semester of intensive spanish in the RC, and then I will take another spanish course in LSA second semester. So far, so good.

However, I also really want to learn French. I want to speak (for whatever reason) 4 languages, and Spanish would be my third. I want to take 2 semesters of intensive French, and then perhaps study abroad. However, in Ross, they are really not flexible with doing things like studying abroad. And also, I can't take French next year, since I need to do pre reqs.

So, what are my options if I want to someone get to France? I don't mind if it might mean I would graduate a bit later. I just want to hear what my options are.

Study abroad during the summer?

Oh, I meant to write but I guess I forgot…I really can’t do it in the summer between junior and senior year because I need to get a finance internship then.

I really htink you should just learn French on your own. I know you’re looking for something better, but I think you shoudl definitely study a lot of French on your own and then take a placement exam and then 1 class if you can fit it in. As for going to France, why not join a French club at the college?

zinthafan: I do have time in my schedule to in fact take Intensive French 1 and 2 during senior year. So, I think I will come out pretty good already just from those 2 semesters, but I need that extra “push” to really secure the skills by living in France for even a little while.

Any chance you could get a finance internship in France? Talk to your advisors about the possibilities and do some research/contact etc with likely recruiters!
