I'm a white, male, sophomore at a parochial school in NJ. I have an unweighted GPA of >97 and I have a projected psat score of 220. I have the most challenging courseload of my entire class of 150. I am definitley in the top 2%. My ECs include sailing club, chorus, key club editor, social service club, community band, and spring musical. I also play 5 instruments.

My question is...

Since it's still fairly early in my high school career, what can I do now to help my admission chances later?

Well I am the Key Club Editor, though that's not too prestigious of a position. I don't think student government is an option (it's dominated by girls at my school!!!) so possibly an NHS position when I am in that.

and don't worry about finding the one specific thing that will get you in because there is not one specific thing. All three of my children applied to Princeton and my one D got in. My other D applied ED, was deferred, then rejected. My thoughts are one filled a niche, the other one didn't. So my suggestion is to do as well as you can on coursework, take the challenging classes, and get really involved in one or two activities and not a whole bunch just to pad a resume. My D was primarily involved in dance as an outside interest and spent MANY hours rehearsing and taking class. In addition to her application, she sent a DVD of some of her performances AND (since we don't live too far away...2.5 hours) she took a ballet class at Princeton where she was "evaluated".
By the way, the "rejected" D is at UChicago and my rejected S is at UVA...perfect matches for both.
