I am really worried. My sat score for cornell is a 1270/1600 and my act is a 28. My gpa is 92 uw and 94w. I am trying my level best to get into cornell this year. I applied to Human Ecology and am instate. I have applied for heop as my family's income is 24,000.

What can I possibly do to show that I truly love cornell and that Cornell is my top choice? I really love cornell but my stats are too low. However, I feel that my essays and ecs are strong as well as my recs.

ive had extenuating circumstances though for this past yr which has resulted in my low stats. IDK i made cornell my top choice and have written 2 emotional essays describing my situation. So even with my scores and essays, no matter how much interest I show, it will be futile?

I think you can relax. Go out and have some fun. Realize that there will never be a time like again (which is a good thing in some ways -- anxiety!) and enjoy your time with your family and friends.

No one on CC can gauge how much impact your circumstances will affect your decision - perhaps a rough estimate but no one can put an exact number.

Race may play a part in the decision. If you're asian/white, you'll have less of a chance than someone who's hispanic/black. Hopefully, that info helps...

i think my essays are unique and explain my poverty stricken time.

You are an exception, not the rule. Anyway, what Jason illustrates is that your chances are not completely horrible and that you do have a chance --- just like everyone else. Best of luck.

You could always just study for the SAT's and take them this fall. You would probably get a higher score if you just spend some time taking practice tests/learning strategies this summer. In any case, my advice is to incorporate specific parts of Cornell into your essays. (maybe a particular type of research you would be interested in that goes on at Cornell or a major not offered anywhere else) Focus on a particular passion that you have and if possible link it to some of your EC's/leadership roles. Other than that, just relax and hope for the best. :)

omg ACornellA I did that!!!. I just finished a research project on diabetes and included how the college of human ec will help my further pursue this research. I specifically mentioned a prof who is doing the exact same research as me, on a more general level.

Get away from these boards topcollege... Please take my advice from my first post. No one is going to say what you want us to say: "You will get in. Do not worry." I think people have quelled as much of your worries as possible in regards to the information your provided. There is only so much that parents, high school students, Cornell students, and the occasionally named admissions representative can do to stump your worries.

One more thing to remember--if you for whatever reason don't get into the school you REALLY want to, you can always go where you DO get accepted and transfer after your freshman or sophomore year. My brother did that because dad said that the private college he wanted to attend (& was admitted to) as way too expensive. He reapplied & got reaccepted as a 2nd semester sophomore & graduated from his dream college.
Good luck!
