Besides consulting and i-banking. With a good GPA (3.7+) and GMAT (700+), will the type of work experience hinder a persons chances of gaining admission to a top mba program?

Pretty much any solid work experience. Engineering. Consulting and ibanking are not the only ways to get into a top mba program.

So working at a big4 accounting and earning a Macc and cpa can be considered "solid work exp"?

^^^^, is that a joke? Of course it is solid work exp. Getting your cpa, and working at ANY accounting firm, full time, would be considered solid.

Working at the Big 4 just means you are willing to work lots of overtime for free.....

No. Working at a big 4 accounting firm is not solid work experience, and neither is ibanking or consulting.

they want to see that you excel, or at least above average, in what you do. the "prestige" of a company where you work is a plus, Microsoft > Neighborhood Software Company.

thanks for all replies
