I'm currently a junior in high school and my biggest desire in a college is whether it is possible to get into a top aftergraduate school from there. Can anyone post any advice, besides that that would be helpful to think about?
Thank you.

Don’t use the term ‘aftergraduate’…especially in your application essays, lol.

What kind of education are you looking for? Law or medical school? A research-based PhD?

I wouldn’t worry about it. Just learn the ropes of the financial aid system and then enjoy your high school experience.

Don’t worry, I wouldn’t use that term in application essay’s it’s just easier than saying a masters in mathematics, and eventually a PhD.

Just try to work on your problem solving skills. Try competitions like AMC/AIME/USAMO or USAMTS. Some people like the Art of Problem Solving series of books.

Ive actually gone pretty far into the dover books on mathematics, that counts as problem solving right? Haha

In high school? Not much directly. Nothing on your high school record will matter when applying to graduate (not “aftergraduate”) school in mathematics.

Indirectly, of course, you can do as well in math and cognate (physics, statistics, chemistry) courses as possible. Try to go as far in the mah sequences as you can, and take AP Calculus if your school offers it. If not, see if you can take a calculus class at a nearby community college or public regional college. That way, when you start college you can start at calculus II (or even calculus III, if you manage to take 2 calc classes in high school).

Some people do research at the high-school level with professors at universities. If you have a nearby university and would like to do that, then maybe try that. But it’s not necessary - most people start in college. You could also do summer math enrichment programs or start a math club or something.

You don’t need to stress out in high school about any graduate programs just yet. Enjoy yourself for awhile! Many people find that their interests shift a little in college so you may find something other than gradschool that you want to do.

Im already doing research, but mostly neuro~biology & trying to crowd source the projects and ive realized its grad school after I put this up! Ill be starting @ differential equations, YAY! And thank you for all the posts.
