ok so… we get split up in groups of 10 by last names.
An experienced UCD student would be the orientation leader that gives us advice and tips about the school.
We get the orientation leader’s personal advice and 1-on-1 contact for planning out your schedule.
Since everyone there is new and shy, you can meet friends easily.
Your roomate would probably be someone that somewhat matches your personality/characteristic (i.m.o.)
Like all the football players got football player roomates, and i’m azn so i got an asian roomate, etc.
So you and your roomate would get along somewhat easily.
You make more friends at the dining hall, if you sit next to friends of your roomate.
Everyone is nice, there isn’t any trashtalk or mean actions.
Yah, a lot of the students are from the bay area, so they might share friends and be friends of friends.
But, i suggest to anyone to spend more time planning out their schedules.
Cuz, a lot of the classes are full, and the most popular times (late morning, and early afternoon) are most likely taken. But morning classes are nearly never taken.
The orientation leaders are really enthusiastic and pumped up about promoting Aggie Pride. The orientation leaders are really helpful and nice.

“Your roomate would probably be someone that somewhat matches your personality/characteristic (i.m.o.)” That’s interesting. How do they know about your characteristics? Was there a survey?

And thank you for listing out what you did, it really gives me a good visual picture of what’s to come.

Oh and one other thing, what do you recommend that others should bring to Davis during the orientation? Sleeping bag, toiletries, money(?)…anything else? I know it’s only a couple of nights, but you can never be too prepared! :D

sleeping bag, definitely. i know my friends didn’t bring it, so they were cold the entire night.
the rooms only provide a very thin sheet and cloth.
they provide towels and soap.
bring basic toiletries.
bring money to buy merchandise, and student planner.
bring your laptop there to register it, and then give it back to your parents once it is registered.
theres no wifi in the dorms, but there is a computer lab in the tercero building.

What do you mean by registering your laptop? I have not purchased mine yet.
Side-“question”: Did everyone pretty much only get one roommate? My friend who is going to another UC said some got quads, triples, doubles, and singles.

And once again, thank you for the concise information!

uh… i think each person only has 1 roomate…

I ended up in a triple for the second orientation for CoL&S - two chairs, two desks, two dressers, two roommates, three beds :/

That’s odd – for my orientation (first one for L&S) we had three chairs, three desks, three dressers, three beds, and three sets of linens…and two roommates =P

It’s possible to have two roommates for Orientation, I did (1st grp of College of L&S)

Well, it seems that others have provided a lot of information already, so I’ll skip out on the complete breakdown of orientation. But if anyone has any questions, I can answer it to the best of my abilities!

I just came back from L&S orientation. I was in a triple at Kearney, Tercero. Most guys, at least, were in triples. A lot of girls had doubles. At least from what I saw.

Hmm, I lived in Kearney as well. Makes me think that there were supposed to be three people in my room (we had three sets of sheets, etc.) but one guy didn’t show up.

I guess it just depends on number of students attending the Orientation

Looks like things haven’t changed much since my orientation. I was in Kearney as well! But I was in a triple with two other girls (one of my roommates was 6 hours late so I thought I was in a double, but there were 3 sets of everything in our room). It seemed the girls in my section of the hall were in triples as well. I don’t know how they assign rooms. I believed it was by last name, but I don’t know how they determine whether you’re in a double or triple.

I heard that the make up orientation dates are from Aug. 11th - 13th. Is it possible just to go on the one day the placement exams are offered (just to take the exams) ?

How is the atmosphere during orientation? I don’t mean friendly or not. I went to something similar where I stayed the night at a college and it simply ended up being the case that the guys were only interested in hitting on the girls and vice versa. I found it very annoying.

Please tell me your orientations weren’t like this.

@shoyon Some guys do hit on girls, but it’s just a part of college. You do not have to participate or hang out with those guys because many many many people are just there to have a good time making friends. But to be honest, the people I met there were nice, but I didn’t exactly click with them. I asked some UCD alumni and they said that orientation is just whatever. You’ll get close and meet really awesome people in the fall. You have such a small sample of people in one orientation session that it’s easy to start judging people at Davis as a whole. The diversity at Davis is immense, which you will see when you move in. So to answer your question in a more direct manner, orientation is a little mix of everything. You have the guys who like to hit on girls, but there is so much other types of guys. Don’t worry about it! And if worse comes to worst, it’s only 3 days, and the last day you can probably leave early because all you need is to sign up for classes.

Think of it as going to a inter-highschool meeting, something similar to the KIWINS Goldstone(?) events, or DCON.

Don’t be too worried about the Orientation ambiance, there’s enough types of people for everyone to make friends.

If you have/had orientation on Tuesday and happened to see the IT guy wearing the grey orientation staff shirt, that was me :). I’ll be fixing any computer problems you may have during your stay in the dorms for the academic year :D. Don’t forget to use the computer center for your printing needs! (250 free prints, double sided prints count as 1 sheet)
