It depends on the effort you are willing to put in community college and your personal statement... it helped my cousin a lot that her brother had studied in Cornell before her (legacy.)

Oh I get it! Now, don't they wonder why in the world would a student starts w/ a CC first of all? Again, do they want to see high school transcripts for that? (I don't think so)

My cousin was depressed, rebellious and very unhappy overall when she was (forced) to go to Community College. Her high school grades were almost non-existent... after two two years of maintaining a 3.9 gpa in comm. college she transferred.

Does harvard accepts a lot of transfer students? Say like, I went to a big state univ and had great GPA, now if I want to be transferred to Harvard, does they accept?

Why not? The whole US college system is very flexible. I've chosen to study in US rather than India for this very reason.

well......personally I think it's tough to get into MIT, Harvard, JHU..........univs like that as a transfer students......(I don't know, I'm just having a feeling!)

Point is, you can always try, and you can always get in.

well, u can always try but I think not always get in! (need to have some luck too for ivies and top notches!)

There is absolutely no need to transfer if you are in a first-rate state college like Gatech, Illinois, Michigan, Virginia, University of California, etc. You can always do a higher degree from an Ivy, or MIT (but I know a lot of Harvard undergraduates who went onto MScs. from Gatech).

yeah, u r right (unless u've Asian parents! lol!!! :d)

I have Asian parents... I'm very much Indian... stayed in India for the last 12 years...

On transferring from a CC to a good school: it is very doable, but rare because you have to be dedicated. At my CC, a friend gained admission to Rice and Georgetown after two years of good grades. He didn't take the hardest classes, but maintained roughly a 3.9 GPA and had great SATs (1510). Clearly he wasn't really meant to be at a CC, but was there for financial reasons and I think he made that point in his essay. For me, the app process is not through, but I've been here for 2 years, taken the hardest classes and also maintained a 3.9 GPA, and also have good test scores (34 ACT). I've received admission to WashU and am waiting on some others, but my reasons for being at a CC were a little different than his. In the end, I think you need to do well, have a clear head and goal, and have actual reasons for attending a CC. If you apply to great schools and it looks like you should have went to a good school out of HS or that you are maybe just trying to bypass the weeder courses, your motives may be looked down upon. They like stories. :D

The only school i know of that you can't transfer into is princeton, but they might change that someday.

To the OP: Congrats. U at Buffalo is a great school! A lot of my friends, many of whom very smart, are going there. I'm sure you'll be very happy.

Thanks a lot brand for clarifying the fact....:)

Jacko, I have a niece who had great SAT scores and applied to only one state school. She was sure she'd get in even though she had less than stellar grades and is LD (learning disabled). Unfortunately, she didn't get in. There were financial issues and a question about her maturity anyway, so she is now happy at her CC where she's getting better grades than she ever got in H.S. She is on track to getting her associates May of '08 and will apply as a transfer to the same state school again for Fall '08, this time with much better grades to prove she's worthy of going there. Everything is working out great for her. Things will work out for you, too.

If I stay here for college, it will simply feel like a continuation of high school- not what I want. It's funny how Brooklyn and NYC in general is so tremendous yet it begins to feel so limiting after a while- but I divulge.

I know it was an unintentional typo, but I found this funny ;) I think the word you meant to type was "digress"

lol, wow, you're right! haha...i don't know how i managed that! -turns red-

asifkhan: I am the thread starter! lol. I created a dummy account just in case I would post something that I didn't want people to kinda know (for whatever stupid reason) and get tied to my profile. So I "cashed in" now. Sounds stupid, I know. I just wish I could edit my 1st post and put in "this thread is for all people and not just me" or something to that effect. (I don't know why CC blocks you from editing posts after a set number of time. w/e)

I'm lost! (nah, actually got most of it!)

Mo, I've had friends who loved their experience at SUNY Buffalo. A lot of people from the city end up going to the far-away SUNYs, so you won't feel too displaced. But you will definitely have a college experience and meet many people you would not meet in Brooklyn.

Congratulations!
