What can you do with a Neuroscience degree?

Hello everyone,

I am an undergraduate student majoring in Neuroscience. I have been feeling uneasy recently about my decision to major in Neuroscience.

My family’s financial situation demands that I work as early as I can, so I do not see myself going to med school or any professional school that requires students to be enrolled full-time. I am considering graduate school only because I know that a BA or BS in Neuroscience won’t really get me a job.

Would switching over to biomedical engineering (to specialize later in neural engineering) help with job prospects? I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you, everyone.

I’ve always heard that your undergraduate degree should be broad. Professional school is where you really should be specializing. I would switch to another major that lends itself to a lot of professions rather than doing neuroscience.

@dognamedcheeto What would be some examples of majors that are “broad”?

General bio, biochemistry, regular chemistry. Those sorts are the easiest to go anywhere with. Of course, you could probably choose something like microbiology or some kind of engineering and have a great outlook. This isn’t to say that neuroscience isn’t a good option, but if you’re predicting you won’t go to graduate school, it is a very narrow field.
