What can you do with a Theatre Degree?

I recently changed my major from French to Theatre at the college that I'll be attending in the fall. (It's a non-audition BA program.)

Anyways, even though my parents are telling me that I can study whatever I'd like since it's my life, I can tell my dad doesn't really like the idea. He doesn't know really what you can do with a theatre degree... and to be honest, I'm not exactly sure either.

So what can you do?

And exactly how difficult is it in this economy to get technical/behind-the-scene jobs in theatre in say New York right now?

I'm not really seeking approval from my father... I'm just trying to understand the reality of a degree in Theatre. XD

This is an older thread but it has a lot of good information.

Congratulations!

Thanks for posting that link. Quite a good read… though I’m wondering if anyone has any current opinions, seeing as how the economy has only worsened since 2008.

anything you want.
