I got a 4 on AP Cal AB. An honors counselor told me I can choose the 3 or 31 series, and I want to enroll in 31A. she also told me that I don't have to take the math placement exam. this was thursday. the exam was tuesday so I can't even take it if I want to. however, I can't enroll in 31A on URSA!
Since I can't get 31A, I can't register for Chem 14B!
And since I can't do the above 2, my well thought out schedule is obsolete. I can't even register for the LS2 class I want because the priority limits for many of the discussions have been reached.

WAAAAAA I wanna cry. and I can't consult a counselor till monday. which might be... too late?! I'm going to cry now.

that's what it says on the website as well. but I was explicitly told by this counselor that it's unnecessary.
the next test is jan 8th. first day of class. I'm not sure if I can enroll then...

the councelor lied? yea you can enroll in it after jan 8th i think. call the math deprtment and ask them. nothing you can do till u call so don't freak out and find an alternative.

well, I have a similar yet not-really-related problem... I tried enrolling for chem 110a last night and according to URSA, I haven't met one of the pre-reqs... which is ridiculous because I checked and re-checked all the pre-reqs and I've taken them all... :-(

I might be missing something.. sorry if I am, but it seems to me that according to the following for Chem14B:

"Enforced Requisites: course 14A and Mathematics 3A or 31A (grade C- or better)"

So doesn't that mean that you'd have to have FINISHED 31A BEFORE even enrolling in 14B? It's not a co-requisite right?

I'm saying this because some of my friends are putting 14B off for a quarter while they take their 3A/31A class, just taking LS1 or a GE to fill up the deficit

I didn't go to orientation. I didn't want to spend 375 plus an equivalent amount in a round-trip plane ticket from colorado.
you had to either have taken a math class before or be coenrolled in one at the same time as chem 14b. this is posted on the chemistry/biochemistry website.
this just frustrates me. I'm calling the counselor first thing monday. but thanks for the help all.

I think you meant to say be coenrolled in Math 31A/3A with Chem 14A not 14B... You have to finish the math class before enrolling in 14B...

SINCE MATH 3A (OR MATH 31A) IS A PREREQUISITE FOR CHEM 14B, YOU MUST HAVE CREDIT FOR MATH 3A (OR MATH 31A) OR BE COENROLLED IN MATH 3A (OR MATH 31A) WHEN TAKING CHEM 14A.

So that means your original plan of enrolling in Math 31A and chem 14B isn't possible in the first place.........

hmm. I really thought that you could take 31A and 14B at the same time. I'll have to consult the chemistry and mathematics department monday to make sure. I still want to take 31A spring quarter however... agh this is not cool.

unless lavelle lied, im sure thats what he said. btw, this is how you do it: first enroll in math. then enroll in 14B. if you drop math, you get automatically dropped out of 14B

well, if my counselor doesn't get me into 31a I'm going to have to wait till january, take the placement exam, and try again. I'll post again in a few days about this. hopefully it'll get resolved.
